996 GT3-R Freisinger
Discussion
Can anyone here confirm how the (lighter, thinner) windscreen on a 996 GT3-R Freisinger was intended to fit?
The 996 windscreen is directly glazed, ie bonded to the car. But in a Le Mans racing scenario, where something like a windscreen will need to be replaced easily and quickly, would these therefore have been clamped in?
I'll get a closer look at the car in a couple of weeks when we get to start work on it (it's coming off the track for a sabbatical and will be on show for a while). From what I can recall having seen it a couple of years ago, the screen in it was glued in, and there were no signs or evidence of the brackets/clamps you often see in race cars. The remit is to get the car back to its "original" form, and we're currently trying to establish how the windscreen would have been fitted - or how it was intended to fit - when the car was built.

The GT3 R uses a 4.5mm thick glass windscreen. Fitted in place with the regular sealing and trim frames in the same way as the road cars (i.e. bonded). Lexan 1/4 and rear windows were used.
The tabs you are talking about are used when a lexan screen is fitted and are to prevent it blowing out.
Edit to add: Is it the Larbre car that Brumos ran at Daytona 24 in 2000?
