Hi guys
This is my first message as a newbie.
Bad news went to garage and had a borescope inspection and they came back with the dreaded news about 2 of bores have scoring marks.
Need to decide weather. A complete engine rebuild or just replace the 2 bores . As dug deep into this topic and. It only seems to happen to 1 or 2 bores is this correct ?

Why did you have a bore inspection carried out? Did you have scoring symptoms (excessive oil consumption, sooting on near side exhaust etc.) ? Are you sure the bores are scored? I've heard of mistaken analysis of normal bore marking previously. This is my first message as a newbie.

Reason for borescope inspection as my car seemed to be drinking a lot of coolant. So had a full service and a borescope inspection and then they showed me pictures of scored bores.

First I was told all bores were scored then I showed another independent garage the pictures and they said only 2 are showing heavy scoring marks.
But the car drives fine.
I know Hartech carry out rebuilds is their any other highly recommended garages ?
Autofarm are also highly respected but adopt a slightly different approach to the problem than Hartech, insomuch as they use steel liners (less expensive). But the car drives fine.

I've personally had positive dealings with Hartech and would recommend them, but another option is Autofarm. But the car drives fine.

Mine is:
1. using about 1 litre per 1300 miles
2. not tapping
3. sooting the left tail pipes somewhat more than the right
Does that spell trouble?
That is how mine started - at 4500 miles! Took OPC a further 3000 miles and a number of "fixes" (such as changing oil separator) before they got the bore scope out. By which time consumption and sooting of n/s pipe was worse. Mine never made a noise. They then tried to fob me off with a dealer rebuild (at 7500 miles and a year old). I held out for new engine. Porsche refused. Dealer made up the difference to get the new engine. Not that I am bitter or anything ;-)1. using about 1 litre per 1300 miles
