Workshop full of rusty MGs.
A lucky escape from a Scimitar.
What do I go and buy, an utter nail of a 350i!
I'm maybe being a bit cruel to it, it's the cheap one that was up on ebay, I know the engine isn't running at the moment, I know it needs the body off, I know the chassis is rotten and I know it probably wants paintwork and the dash doing. Oh and probably a load of wiring. Oh and maybe electric window motors.
Never mind the bits I find along the way.
So potentially, chassis, body, engine. Best hope the gearbox and back axles good!
Anyone got any advice on body off? Off to collect next weekend and probably get the body off one evening the week after, can engine be left in the chassis? What needs to come out of the shell interior? Most of it's being stripped out anyway as I need to reveneer the dash and will probably be changing the colour of the car.
Any easy performance improvements to do while I'm at it?
Any local Wedgers fancy helping me lift it off?

Lol looks like my weekends and evenings have just become busier.
Thanks that's kind of you, we are off to collect the Beastie on Sunday so when its back and I've worked out a plan of attack I'll update this a bit, the chap knows his cars so I cant see his description being off and if the chassis is as bad as it sounds I think getting stuck straight in and getting the body off is the answer.
I did one outrigger with the body on and the other with the body off. Both quite do-able but no question which approach I recommend. Getting all the other rusty bits off is so much easier with the body out the way. Once you're committed to taking it off it's def worth doing, it's very shiny and silver now.
Well I've got it home, must admit, had it not been the case I'd given my word to buy it and it was so far away and I was already there with the trailer I'd probably have walked away. While it would probably break for more than I paid it's a mess.
But I don't really want to break it, so in the hope of rescuing it I need the following if anyone can help, in order of importance.
Chassis - The existing chassis is absolutely shot, no hope of rescue without taking it right down and shotblasting it then jigging it and rebuilding tube by tube, it's just not worth the work. Does anyone have a chassis that is suitable for a 350i kicking around?
Fuel pump - got the engine turning over and have a strong spark, but no fuel, played around with the fuel pump relay and fuse and without going under and checking the wiring to the pump (I'm feeling a bit down about the whole thing tbh and just came home) I'm fairly confident it's the pump. I'd feel a whole lot better if I could just hear the engine start and run at least I know it's not hopeless, frankly if the engines dead too the car is a breaker.
A plethora of other bits including front fogs, drivers window reg, rear spoiler, both rear light lenses, an exhaust system full lot including headers all is rotten, interior bits/hood - it's all complete but a bit scruffy.
Any help appreciated, off to the pub now!

Put 12v across the pump and see if it spins. Make sure there's fuel in there! Don't want to run the pump if it's dry.But I don't really want to break it, so in the hope of rescuing it I need the following if anyone can help, in order of importance.

Yes got back a bit more cheerful from the pub, off down on Thurs eve, assuming pump is somewhere around front of OSR wheel? To be honest given how rotten it is underneath I wouldn't be shocked to see the wires have dropped off.
I think I sent Stu a message last night about his chassis and bits, but not heard back from him yet.

Well done good to see someone restoring what we on the Pre 80s would see as a restoration project where to often on the Wedges are seen as parts cars at some point as the cars left get depleted more and more will get restored properly.
Good Luck do what you have to well hide the bills and don't count the pennies if you can avoid it the best restorations are done without a real budget because that's what they want to do.
