Ive just screwed the electronic speedo sensor into the bottom of the gear box. Its screws onto a brass threaded spigot. my question is the threaded spigot meant to be locked in place in the gearbox mine just seems to spin. Its almost as if it should be locked in place by a nut???

No. It's just retained by a circlip, so it's a little tricky to tighten the sender onto it. I'd try wedging a screwdriver in at the edge of the spigot to stop it turning whilst the sender is tightened.

out of interest is the speedo cable an easy thing to replace? mine only works after a long run, otherwise the speedo flaps all over the place.

thanks

This is not a cable its a mechanical to electric sensor that screws to the off side bottom of the box, if you have the same thing just get the car up high on stands wriggle underneath and unscrew it having wedged the thread with a screwdriver, there is a blanking plug in the drivers side of the gearbox tunnel but its not a lot of use I found..
