Last week I saw that Boots opticians were offering free hearing checks. My hearing isn't a major problem but my Dad's hearing is appalling (he often doesn't hear the phone ringing) so I'm expecting mine to go the same way and took the opportunity to find out just how much I've lost so far.
Not too bad, some hearing loss but no need for a hearing aid and apparently if I can't hear the TV it must be because the speakers are crap.
My Dad makes no effort to get his hearing checked much less get a hearing aid so I thought I'd tell him that I had detectable loss in the hope that it would show him just how bad his must be.
'Boots are doing free hearing checks' I announced.
After a few minutes of
"Eh?"
"What?"
"What books?"
"Free trips where?"
etc etc
I finally got my message across.
"Funny you should say that" he said
"my hearing isn't as good as it was".
