Where's my knob?

I have air con and it's working nicely, but I don't seem to have the control knob near the steering column. Is it somewhere else or removed on a 2000 Cerb?

I think on later cars its hidden behind the lower right side cowling, you have to stick your hand up between the column and cowling and you will find the control, in my case ('02 car) with a metal knob attached. Easy enough to see if you look around there first.

While we're on the subject, which way should it be turned to make it colder?
I know it's very sensitive and the consensus is to leave it alone but my a/c is healthy but could do with being just a tad colder.
