Heritage certificates

Please excuse my ignorance.....

I am looking to apply for the above .
What is the advantage of getting a 'technical specification upgrade'
Will the cert tell me what colour, internal and external my car left the factory in?
I am sure that somebody advised me to ask for additional info with the cert, I wonder if if was the details of the first owner?

All and any advice on heritage Cerys greatly appreciated

I ordered the basic certificate for mg just for interest purposes,

Not sure if the extra cost for the tech spec is worth it as it's bound to be available online .

Also it won't show previous/first owners, there's a separate form from the dvla for that I think.

The basic £40 certificate shows...

- make and model
- car/chassis no
- engine no.
- body no.
- spec, eg uk car or lh/rh drive
- colour - exterior & interior
- build date
- date of dispatch
- destination/supplying dealer
- any other numbers
- factory fitted equipment
- then a few other bits of less important info.

I don't think your guaranteed all of them, but they give you whats on the factory records, some cars fare better than others

I've never heard of a "technical specification upgrade" in relation to Jaguar Heritage Certificates?



Here is a summary of what the Jag website says:

"The Certificate gives all the relevant information on your car taken from the original records. It will confirm the original numbers and colour scheme, give the dates of build and despatch, as well as the original destination of the car. Where recorded, the name of the first owner and the original registration mark are also included on the Certificate. We offer this service for all cars which are more than ten years old.

The service is available for:

Swallow bodied cars (Austin Seven, Wolseley Hornet and Standard) 1931 – 1933
SS Cars 1931 – 1936
SS Jaguar cars 1935 – 1940
Jaguar cars from 1945 onwards
Daimler cars from circa 1959 onwards (there is also limited information available for some earlier Daimler cars, from circa 1953 onwards)
We carry out the research from a chassis number and/or other number(s), or other information which has been quoted to us by a client. We cannot accept liability in cases where incorrect numbers have been quoted by clients, even if this leads to the wrong car being researched.

That is why we ask you to supply all the original numbers from the car, including engine number, body number and gearbox number. You should also quote the UK registration mark (where applicable) and date of first registration.

You are requested to send a scan or photograph of the second page only of the UK registration certificate V5C (or an equivalent non-UK document or certificate) with your application. If you do not send suitable documentation, we may not be able to issue a certificate with all the information about the car. Please note that we always reserve the right to refuse to issue a certificate. A refund will be made if we cannot issue a certificate."

Neville, I'm just curious are the records held at Gaydon and certificates originate/issued from there?

as they offer different levels of certificate from a dating letter onwards - you can't see what that letter says as whoever looks after their site has noticed that you can't zoom in on some of the certificates to see what they say including that dating letter

Yes, the records are held at Gaydon and are issued from there by Faye McLeod and Anders Clausager. Faye replaced Anders as the Trust's Archivist in April 2011 but Anders returned to work part-time and it is he who deals with most of the Certificates.

I'm probably being more than a little dumb here but I don't understand your second question about the "dating letter"

There is only one type of certificate offered (although not all the items may have an entry against them).

£40 quid, not cheap.
In the recent past, Unless you asked for the Full Original Owners details ( and supplying Dealer and Original Registration number ) it wasnt given to you.

Trajic that the lovely lady who worked there for so long has retired........

They are now £45 Ric. I don't think it was ever a requirement to supply both original Dealer name and Reg Number?

Although Julia Simpson retired a while ago she still works there part-time and is often to be seen helping out at outside events.

Thanks for the info.

The car is a (currently) white e type, with a few orange bits .
I have reason to believe that it was black in the past.
Hence my interest in finding out its original colour

for £5 you could fill in DVLA form V88 for the history they have on your car and see if that gives you the information you want
