Unfortunately due to lack of support Castle Combe's KITFEST hasc been cancelled. A real pity because following the demise of the Newark & Exeter shows a 'new' action show might have done a lot to revive the industry. I understand that Castle Combe Circuits & KitCar Magazine might try again next year....

Typical, 'use it or lose it', the MEV Owners club cancelled there Curborough event because is was on the same day! I do hope it can be resurrected. Why is it I wonder that so many kit car owners are foregoing specific kit car shows and event?

It would be interesting to know what aspect of "support" was lacking. I was thinking of going along, but was going to decide nearer the date.

I wonder if there was insufficient manufacturer & trader support to justify going on with the event.

Shame, I'm sure it would have been a fun day.

From e-mail from Castle Combe

Quote "I sincerely believe that format was/is good but there was perhaps just a timing issue. We really hope to try again next year and that with more notice the manufacturers and traders will commit early and get behind the event to attract the clubs and individual owners." End quote

From correspondence I don't think many manufacturers were willing to display. Unfortunately the market is seemingly in decline with too many manufacturers chasing too few potential sales. There are individual exceptions but I think that the costs involved (and not just display fees) deter manufacturers from attending. Not of coursed helped by us owners (eg me!) being unwilling to pay to attend shows.
To be honest the whole industry needs consolidation - there are (perhaps) too many magazines fighting for market share. Manufacturers can't afford to advertise in all the magazines so advertise insufficiently in all? And there isn't anything left in the sales/promotion budget for shows!

Certainly no decline, the recession is over, we are in boom times, kit sales are increasing big time right now, manufacturers will advertise in magazines if they monitor the response and see that the adverts pay off.
"And there isn't anything left in the sales/promotion budget for shows!"
The fact is that cutting back on advertising/marketing because money is tight due to slow sales, is often the cause of slow sales!
I believe that CC lost their bottle. If the weather were to be OK on the day the place would be mobbed but they insisted on kit car drivers booking in advance just to get in, how bizarre.
But it will all work out for the better in the end, watch this space. Keep 19th July free if you own a kit car.
KIT FEST is still on, it's just moved.

Where would we be without you Stuart? Sometimes I think you are the kit car industry!

Is anyone else selling anything?

Thank you, that is very generous of you, bad news though, I understand the new location for KIT FEST will require kit car drivers to pay £2 to get in! Sorry, it just has to be, can't provide toilets, cut the grass to display on, security, gate staff etc without running up costs, trust you understand. It is about 50 miles from Mansfield so that will save some of us money in fuel but cost others more I guess. New site to be published in a day or so with all the info, www.kitfest.co.uk

I think you've hit the nail on the head there. The publicity was a bit confusing as well with a complicated array entry/camping/food tickets.

Stuart are you sure CC haven't registered the "kitfest" name?

Well done Stuart for picking up some of the pieces and making something out of it. You MEV guys really do have what the whole Kit Car Scene needs it's a pleasure seeing you guys are always having fun and getting together at all the events.

Castle Combe would have been a good event I'm sure of it. I've been to several Action Days there and they're always worth going to. I do agree that things could have been made less confusing and expecting people to reserve places months in advance just to attend with their kit car was not a sensible thing to have done it was bound to give poor attendance impressions. People just don't live their lives by timetables and appointments.

I do very much hope the show will go on and I will make a booking when it is rescheduled but don't expect any more than a fraction of people to tell the show organisers months in advance if they will be attending with their kit. If numbers are looking low then do a joint show with one of the others that's indicating low attendances, there's usually kits of some sort at most every show involving cars so I really don't see it being a problem.

Such a shame only an hour from me and being on track with other kits on a great track not disrespect to curborough but im not making the treak up north.

Then again it would be a squeeze to get mine ready in time now some of my bits are on the factory lightweight version ready for its iva for the cars present owner.

Indeed this may have been a problem for peeps - Lets say someone doesn't organise their diary, so they just want to turn up on the day, but if they're unsure they'll get in then they won't bother! Other person (myself as an example) looked at going, but was told 'there are a max of 20 spaces on each club stand' - I was looking to camp elsewhere (ok I'm moderately sociable) but didn't want to book camping to find I can't get on the club area, so decided to give it a a miss. Plenty who may have booked may well have not turned up if the weather was bad anyway, so I don't know what the organisers were trying to achieve with this method. Shame, but their good intentions (and attempt to predict attendance) hasn't worked. If Stuart has another event planned, then full marks, thanks, etc are in order.

So MEVFest at Curborough instead. Well done Stuart for organising at short notice but isn't really suitable for me, especially as the sprint circuit is restricted to MEV vehicles only.

Ditto re congratulations to Stuart. But MEVfest it is, KITFEST it isn't. I was looking forward to KITFEST specifically because Castle Combe is only 20 odd miles from me. Still am attending Classic Classic & Retro Action Day on 28th June. We might# have a couple of spaces on our stand (free tickets) for classic (or classic style) cars if anyone is interested.

might# - possible cancellations / unwanted tickets.

Hmm. I suspect there won't be many takers outside of the MEV world if you restrict track access to just MEV cars. It's a bit elitist to call it kitfest and restrict the action to just MEV owners. You might want a re-think on that one.
