programmable speedo - I need one
Discussion
Sent it via the email on your profile, anyway, I may have an ETB digidash 2 lite available if the price is right (used but in very good condition), not sure if I am going to use it in my current project but could release it. Email me if you are interested.
There are some GPS based speedo's starting to come on the market (Dakota I think) that you may want to look at, these are independent of the mechanics of the car. These can be cheaper than the electronic traditional speedos and do no have the sensor issues. The round clock replacements seem to be US based (teleflex, boat based but they do a 120mph version) or there are digital bike versions out there - (digital-speedos.co.uk).
This may do the job - http://www.speedhut.com/gauge/GR2-GPS-06/1/GPS-Spe... - you can even change the pointer/colour/font etc. to make it look like your other instruments.
Hope this helps.

GPS speedo won't pass IVA as they check speed on the rollers
There are many electronic programable speedos, ETB, TELEMETRIX, etc, you can set the speedo by front button or rear toggle switches and get a signal from prop bolts, magnets or gearbox takeoff
A bit of research on the web and a look at Rally Design, Demon Tweeks, Burtons, Car Builder Solutions will give you many options
