Just got my car, '02 996TT, back from OPC after 2 yr 24,00 miles (actual mileage 7,500mi) service, charged £1450!!! is this normal? They said cost for basic service was £1100, sounds a bit much to me. Have I just been ripped off, or do they all charge the same.

Also I electronically checked the oil level, and the whole gauge ie. all gradations, are lit up (above the upper level mark). Should I worry about this? They only charged me for 1 litre of Mobil 1, so unlikely to have over filled it. Perhaps a dodgy reading.

I had the same service done a couple of weeks ago at an OPC. Mine was £1200, £1100 basic plus brake fluid change.

www.pistonheads.com/members/showcar.asp?carId=2685

My 2nd year service came to £986 including new interior mats (£120), oil change, brake fluid change. It also included a 10% discount for being a member of PCGB. So if you add the discount back on and delete the mats it would have normally come to about £975. This was done in april.

This did not include any replacement disc, pads, tyres etc, which I sort out on a when needed basis.

if you can't afford the service then you shouldn't be running the car really tifosi.

Thats a bit harsh Craig, I know what you are saying, but surely it doesn't matter how much money you have, it still pays to look after it!

Tifosi,
It really does still pay to shop around OPC's for service prices, the standard price is around £1,000 for the two year service (it goes minor & major, so your next year bill should only be around £300). I managed to get it for £750 for the service only, no extra's.

Oil is always filled to the brim to reduce thrown away oil. It will go doen shortly, just keep an ey on temp.

As for cost this does seem on the high side of reasonable.

I had my 993tt serviced last month; proper 12K service cost £250!

Parr motorsport changed the oil filters and the oil which I supplied as I can get it for £3 a litre.

I got a service kit from them containing the air and pollen filters and replaced them myself.

Having been well and truly screwed by my local OPC in kent, I do pretty much everything myself. Having access to a full workshop with lifts helps of course but you can't beat the feeling of knowing it's been done properly.

If I were you I'd take my car to a decent independant.

Yeah, quite.

Cost for 24k mile service kit for 993: £75 from OPC.
No kidding.

Includes 12 plugs, 2 oil filters, various o-rings, the two pollen filters and the engine air filter.
Add another £100 for Mobil 1 and that's the parts covered.

Northways charge for the labour portion of a 24k miles service is about a third of what the OPC charge here in Reading. You do the math.

My first major service for my car (48K) was about £950, plus £650 for the alternator they broke and said htey had to replace (later discovered they hadn't) plus £280 for the suspension alignment (took three attempts to get rights) and they 'forgot' to change the gearbox oil and brake fluid (didn't forget to charge me for it though). Eventually refunded me £250 for my inconvenince!

I won't mention the wiring loom recall that they left plugs off of.

They did manage to get the scuttle paintwork done under warranty though (although in truth I paid for it via the 'service').

Unless you car is under warranty I would keep it as far away from OPC's as possible.

I just so happen to have (don't ask) a brake down of the OPC charges for the year 2 and 4 - Large maintenance service:

DESCRIPTION HOURS RATE AMOUNT
24,000 MILE SERVICE 6.6 105.00 693.00
48,000 ADDITIONALS 0.4 105.00 42.00
TOTAL LABOUR 735.00

DESCRIPTION QUANTITY UNIT PRICE AMOUNT
PA001 POLLEN FILTER 1 29.76 29.76
PA002 ALUM.SEAL 1 0.27 0.27
PA003B TURBO WASHER 2 0.24 0.48
PA003 SEALING RING 1 0.30 0.30
PA010 MOBILE ONE 1 LTR 1 10.20 10.20
PA024 SCREENWASH 1 2.86 2.86
FORTE ADDITIVE 1 0.01 0.01
PBULK MOBIL ONE OIL 9 10.20 91.80

TOTAL PARTS 288.60

NOTE CARS WITH CHARCOAL FILTER ADD £49.77 + vat

TOTAL COST 1202.73

The year 1 and 3 are Small lubrication service, which are a lot cheaper as they don't include the labour and parts for changing:
SPARK PLUGS
POLY RIB BELT
OIL FILTER

It does depend on how well you know your service manager, to what labour rate they charge you.

wow some of these service prices look massive, a major 24k service on a 996 turbo here would be £495+vat and that includes stripping the brakes and refurbishing all hubs and calipers.
worth a visit to yorkshire i would say
