Just wondered of those out there with an illegal size plate - and if you've changed recently, did you get any more attention from BIB as a result?

...and who's is the smallest?

They do look good but its just not worth the agro. My mate had one and within a week he was fined and put his old one back on.

Needless to say the illegal plate was binned.

Yes I have one and yes it does attract unwanted attention and no it really isn't that small compared to some that I have seen (plates that is)

I have one but it is only one size smaller so it doesn't take the pi$$. Never had any trouble with that or my loud cans and I put it down to not RLAC (Riding Like A Cnut) However if it is the size of a mars bar then you are asking for trouble and might as well not have one on at all.

It's a bit like saying 'Stop me please!'

Tempting fate and then who knows what else will be found to be wrong with your bike - and something else will be found....

Mines about 20% too small...and black and silver!

I get away with it because it looks correct for the style of the bike, and 'cos I ride sensibly.

The rear of my bike got damaged about a year ago and I never really fixed it properly until a month or so ago when the numberplate and indicators all got dragged into the back wheel. However, I did over 100 miles with only a piece of A4 with my reg number scribbled on it gaffer taped to my back.

I've since bought a standard plate, but there's not much left to attach it to so it's a little obscured under the tail section. It's visible though, pretty much.

Mine's a bit undersized, to make it fit well and look right on the bike but doesn't look silly is easily readable and when I've been stopped for 'other reasons' Plod has never mentioned it (or the 'safety' cans) but I suppose that in this new era of technical offences I will probably get done for it now.

I don't think it's offensive do you?

Top drawer replies!

I also subscribe to the not "RLAC" school of motoring...nearly all of the time. Well played CATSO - glad to see the Duc riders' indicators are still bigger than their mirrors.

I'm off to write my rego onto the back of a mars bar wrapper and gaffer tape it to the back of my lid.

Cheers all!!!

Really... I never realised it would be virtually impossible to photograph from the side with the plate buried between the pipes, yet appear normalish to a following vehicle

They look a bit naff though. I know a guy who fitted a plate where the rear reflector (above the cans is) it was the same height as the reflector (about 1") and just a bit wider (about 5") - also had indicators on each end and completely did away with the number plate hanger/indicator fittings under the cans.

But it was a very small plate

My mate's TL1000R has a set up like Bliarout's and for aesthetic reasons he fitted the plate well under the seat cowl, so that you can only see from behind & low down or a long way back - it looks fine from a distance but would probably be hidden from view if you were silly enough to want to be able to read (or photograph) it from, say a step ladder at the side of the road as the bike passed by - can't really see anyone wanting to do that though so I don't suppose that it's a problem
