I'm off to Le Mans on Thursday with the Griff, can not wait. Look out for dark blue P reg that sounds like a Blenhiem Bomber!!!
Problem is after seeing the weather forecasts I may be in trouble. The heater is on full hot and I cannot make it run cool. Is there a simple fix whereby it can just not provide any heat? I'm sure I will not need it during what looks like a great weekend.
If you see P 923 OLO say hi

You can manually shut the heater valve.
You'll have to get into the footwell and find the valve. Feel behind it and there is a rod connecting the motor to the valve.
There is a clip holding the rod in place in the valve lever, the clip pushes off the rod sideways the the rod will push out of the valve lever.
With the rod disconnected you can close the valve manually.
It sounds complicated but if you have a feel around at the back of the valve you'll work it out.
Have a great trip and the racing is good. Bloody typical that the year I don't go the weather is cracking. I hope it hangs in there for the Classic.

If you've got time replace the HCV, it's a modified MKI Golf part. The internal o-ring stops sealing as it wears, it's pretty obvious when it's apart. The motor is just a balanced electrical circuit with a control pot driving the stepper motor round. You can take the motor off the HCV and watch it operate. Once you get it all indexed it should work after a fashion.
GSF have them on the shelf.
Top tip, mark the body so you can easily tell how many degrees it needs to be rotated in a closed position!
About an hours work.

You can also try turning off the fresh air recirculation which is the bottom left of the 4 knobs (turn it fully anticlockwise). That stops air coming in from the front of the car when you are driving along.
Then close the footwell vents and the dash vents and turn the bottom right knob fully clockwise to the screen setting.
That should minimise the hot air coming in to the cabin and direct what does come in up onto the screen and out, assuming the roof is off.

Great advice as usual from Colin.

There are a couple of photos of my valve and motor setup
The 2nd shows the connector rod and the clips which hold it in place - most obvious is the one at 3 o'clock which is undone. The other end is still locked on by the look of it. They kind of rotate sideways off the rod.
Good luck.

Brings back memories of a fantastic blast with a sadly now ex in Aug 2007 in N435 DDY down through France, via Rheims and Epernay, then onto the Black Forest.
It was really hot during those 12 days and the heat thrown back from the awful alloy dash that had been fitted was terrible. Gear lever and door interior releases were too hot to touch.
Have a great time, its one trip that i always wanted to do in my one.

There is a small pot on the side of the valve.. this tells the control unit where it is positioned... however it's held in place by 1 singe screw... Not sure if mine was ever correct as the screw was tight, but having released it and turned it clock-wise... and then anti-clockwise, I got mine so it shut off perfect... nice cool air
(however I do wish I'd done it before my trip to Le Manns
as it was a tad HOT ) ... have a play.. only taken a few seconds to adjust it.... it does take about 5 mins of the fan running however to cool off the hot water in the heater so you knows it's altered it one way or the other
