Typical Dead Island fare - IE I bet the trailer has nothing to do with the game! Interesting watch though, particularly with the 'twist' near the end. I wonder if the two goons turning up in the van at the end is supposed to signal a more lighthearted, comedic experience this time around? Knowing how Dead Island trailers relate to the final games, probably not!

So, the short details are that it's being developed by Yager, who did the rather good Spec Ops: The Line game and it's only coming to current gen consoles. Finally, it feels like we're leaving behind the shackles of the last generation of consoles. How will this fare against Dying Light? Dying Light already looks like Dead Island for the Xbox One, so this game will have a fight on it's hands. It's sure to provide entertainment though, Dead Island games are always good for that!

Hopefully they'll be developing it on a new engine because the technology the used on DI1 and Riptide was shocking. Also, if they want to leave the analogue combat in, which makes the game much more fun, balance the difficulty so it's not impossibly frustrating if you choose to stick with the analogue method.

I got Dead Island 1 for £5 and still felt ripped off.

I've been watching this today. I wonder, if they were aware that Dead Island 2 was already under development and was called 'Dying Light'!

Looks like Dead Island to me, with some welcome free running thrown in. So, how is Dead Island 2 going to tackle this newcomer? Skip to 08:45 and see some awesome footage of a zombie being propelled through the sky by a ruptured air canister.

You're not making sense. Why does that trailer need to have anything to do with the actual game? Dying Light is coming out on the PS4, not just the Xbox One. Dead Island 2 is a different team, the people who made the original Dead Island are making Dying Light. They're not connected.

The trailer for Dead Island had no relation to the actual game Dead Island. It was completely different in tone and theme.

His point is you probably can't trust trailers from the people who made Dead Island. I agree with him.

Same here. I starting playing it recently after picking it up in the steam sale ages ago and it's so boring. 3 hours in and I'm uninstalling it.

My point is that Dying Light and the new Dead Island seem like identikit copies of each other. Or at least, Dying Light is what I'd expect a next-gen Dead Island to look like. Whether or not DI2 will be anything like Dying Light remains to be seen though we could be faced with two very, very similar titles. Dying Light has pointed to it's free running mechanic but both seem to be FP zombie apolocalypse hack-'em-up RPGs.

However, I suspect DI2 will not deviate massively from it's roots so it could well end up being very similar to Dyling Light. One thing you know from the first Dead Island game is not to trust the trailer!

It's a dude jogging down the beachfront whilst zombie related antics happen in the background, it's hardly essential to the actual game is it?

The trailer for the original Dead Island was incredibly well done and led people to believe that it would be more serious and plot driven, not something where you smack hordes of zombies with comedic sound effects. If you saw a film trailer that made it look like a drama but turned out to be a comedy you'd be right to feel mislead.

Given that the first DI games had great trailers and turned out to be st, perhaps this st trailer for DI3 will reverse the trend, st trailer, great game.

Are you kidding? I regularly see trailers that portray the film as a comedy and it turns out to be something else. American Hustle and Pain and Gain spring to mind.

So did you feel mislead by those trailers?

No because I'm old enough to know that trailers aren't representative of the finished product. Prometheus and Man of Steel had great trailers but were terrible films for example. The point is films are regularly pitched as something they're not.

So what's the argument with the trailer? That it's comedic and if it turns out to be super serious people will be pissed?

Yes, pre ordering games is big business and review embargoes normally last until the day of release, so people will be annoyed if they've spent £50 on a non refundable item that doesn't match the description

Did anyone notice whose voices it was in the trailer?
If it's who I think it is they could have a very interesting line-up

Well I rather enjoyed Dead Island. Oh, and whilst I am confessing, I may as well admit I also enjoyed Dead Rising too (random weapons and so on)....

I expect I'll enjoy this too - mindless brain out (excuse the puns) violence, can't be too bad.

I thought the voice was Jack black???

I doubt the trailer will represent the game at all, its an advert for a game, it gets your attention, and makes you aware that this is upcoming, i would expect to see a bit more 'gameplay footage' nearer the release date, but not too much to ruin any surprises.
