Anyone else done this today or going tomorrow?
Much bigger selection than when I went a few years ago (albeit in the depths of recession), with a lot of stuff I wouldn't otherwise have either the time or opportunity to drive, such as:
BMW i3 - very impressive. Nice to drive but idiosyncratic so I'd have to try one for longer if I was thinking about long term. Couldn't actually tell when the engine was running and when not
New Mini - a big step forward in build quality and refinement. 3-pot diesel much smoother and quieter than I was expecting
Jag XF-R - awesome performance, mind you it was showing an 11mpg average for the day
F-Type soft-top - equally awesome, but I'd need the roof up for long, fast journeys
Fiat 500 twin-pot - most disappointing of the day, rough, severe offset on the pedals and the only car I got tyre squeal out of (not going fast either)
Nissan Leaf - more mainstream than the i3 and I could easily live with one for commuting, but still that nagging concern over running out of juice
Vauxhall Ampera - uninspiring, and with a high-pitched whine which would send me round the twist within a few miles
Maserati Ghibli - V6 sound very V8-like. Very, very likeable
BMW 420d - err, forgettable
Fiesta Ecoboost 1.0 - very capable and likeable, only struggled slightly on the steepest bits of the track
Oh, and the rides in the GT86 and GT-R (180mph on the banked bowl
) - full of admiration for the pro drivers who get to drive these things for a living
