I had more than half of my car painted, recently, paid for by my insurance.
The few "unpainted" panels are almost 8 years old and have some surface scratches and swirl marks, so the overall paint finish isn't great, as could be expected.
Apparently my insurer was expecting the garage to do a full machine polish as part of the work they had approved to pay. The garage wanted an extra £800+VAT for this, so the insurer declined the machine polish.
Now I'm left with a car with sub-par paint. Insurance and garage are talking together, and garage offered a free hand polish, with me inspecting the car together with the Insurance's engineer when finished.
Does this sound reasonable to you?

Kick up an unholy sh*tstorm until it's fixed to your satisfaction, that's what insurance is for.
I had my car "painted" 2 years ago through an insurances body shop and the finish was terrible, it was actually a different colour never mind shade. Manager tried to pie me off with every excuse in the book when I pointed it out.
Refused to accept it and it was taken back in and done perfectly the 2nd time.

I can't see why the insurer or repairer would do anything with panels that aren't part of the original claim, irrespective of marque.
I used to work in a bodyshop and we had a red Alfa 147 in. The red had faded to pink but as it had a clearcoat nothing could be done about it. We painted one side in the correct shade which left the car looking like it was painted two colours! It ended up coming back for the rest painting, at the owner's expense...and rightly so IMHO.
