So my move to Scotland is imminent! 4 more weeks.

My brother is coming to visit me in August, and I'd love to rent a fun car for the day or longer, but all the companies that do 'prestige' or 'exotic' or 'sports car' hire seem out of range.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a 'fun' car to rent, or a place that rents sporty-ish cars at reasonable prices? I'll be picking my brother up in Glasgow and staying in Stirling, but we can travel for the right deal.

Much of what I've found is 250/day which is just too much right now.

Thanks in advance,
JD

I can't really see that you're going to be able to get a decent sports car or something like that for much less than £250 per day, without having to guarantee a huge deposit if something went wrong (i.e. you crashed it).

If it were me, i'd pick him up in my car and spend £100 or so going out for the day and having a few beers with him to catch up.

As for car hire companies, I can't help i'm afraid....can't you hire something semi-exotic from the likes of Avis Prestige or Hertz nowadays? You may need to hire for a minimum period though if it's over a weekend for instance.

I did this: http://www.highlandcaterhamhire.co.uk/

And I can't recommend it highly enough. The most fun I've ever had in a car, the car, the roads and the scenery are all perfect!

Some photos I took of the car: https://www.flickr.com/photos/danyeates/sets/72157... I didn't take many, as I was having too much fun driving!!!

Cool! Those are the ones I've found so far so that confirms what's out there. Caledonian Car Hire has an MX5 for 99 pounds/day all inclusive and it is just 24 minutes from the house so that may be an option.

I'd use my fiance's car, but I'm not able yet to get on her insurance. Funny, that. I can rent a car but can't drive my fiance's car.

I had a good experience but they may have changed the format since that time...

What would be another decent little car to tool around in that is commonly offered from 'normal' rental car companies? Or aren't there any? ;-)
