Ive recently had some work carried out by my insurer and as part of that they regassed my aircon. When doing this would you normally check the system for leaks before regassing?

The reason I ask is the aircon doesn't work. The garage is over 150 miles away and can only get a hold of them via the insurer. Googling the name of them doesnt return a local rate number.

The system is normally vacuumed down before regassing, this usually shows leaks but not always.

There should have been dye put in the system when it was regassed, this shows up under a UV light so you can check for leaks (sometimes it takes a couple of days for the gas to escape and the system to stop working, depends on the size of the leak)

Or they just didn't bother regassing it...

I'd just phone your Insurer and say that the aircon isn't working and it was prior to the accident. They ultimately hold responsibility for the repair work.

Worth the cost of a phone call to your insurer as the work done has a warranty.

I'd contact the insurer - obviously it's reasonable to assume you haven't used the aircon until it's warm.

However they may well say that you could have got a leak since.

Thanks for the advice guys will try give them a call tomorrow.

In your experience would they want the car back at the original garage or would they find one closer to home?

Im in northumberland and repairing garage was in sheffield. Whilst they do have a warranty I want as little hassle as possible as it took from Nov - April to get the car returned first time round.
