What Glue?

Hi

Can anyone recommend/suggest a glue to use that will bond a rubber door seal directly to the metal of the door itself where it has come away. It must also be on sale at either Halfords or Homebase as they are the only stores within miles of me that sell that kinda stuff.

Superglue

Neutral cure clear silicone (ie. not the stuff that smells of vinegar). Homebase should have it but you might have to read the small print carefully to establish that it is neutral cure as they don't put complicated scientific words like that on the front because they don't want to confuse the knuckledraggers.

Absolutely not! It won't hold for any great length of time and will just cause the rubber to go hard.

Proper weather strip glue made by the likes of 3m, made to glue rubber weather strip to the metal of your car. Buy on eBay and get it delivered?

Can you still get this? I bought a tin recently and when I got it home and opened it, it basically contained Copydex. Useless. The solvent nazis strike again.

Ended up buying something called Thixofix mail-order (can't find al its of stockists anywhere) which as far as I can see is proper Evo-Stik!

Can you expand on this? I have used superglue successfully to spot repair a rubber seal. I am guessing from the OP it is just a small area and not a whole door seal.

Toolstation sell it. Comes in a small red/silver paint tin. Certainly smells like it's got the good stuff in it. One of the Sikaflexes would work, but a 300ml tube is way more than you would need!

Careful now.

Check which version suits best as some variations will be overkill for fixing seals to metal (as its a seal you will probably want to change it in the future when it perishes).

I've not found much that I cant stick with gorilla glue, can be messy if add too much and always end up with it on my fingers for 2 days.

Rubber to metal?...I would use a double sided tape personally, like carpet tape. No hard glue will work. That or Evostick impact adhesive which remains flexible.

This. Butyl rope can be had cheaply too; never dries, weatherproof, very sticky. It's what they use to keep the plastic waterproof membranes stuck on the inside of the door skin.
