Just wanted somewhere to log my progress really, and seeing I'm on PH most days I thought I'd put it on here. Currently 168lbs (76kg/12 stone). I'm 27 and 5'7, so I'm carrying a bit more weight than I'd like. I would like to be 160lbs (72kg/just under 11.5 stone) by this point in July. I'll update every Thursday if I remember. Feel free to join in...

I've been doing the similar 16:8 diet for 2 weeks and have lost 1.2kg so far. I do go to the gym 5 times a week but I did the same before the diet so aside from not eating from 10pm to 2pm nothing has changed.

it isnt as difficult as I expected, skipping breakfast is fine as it was always rushed anyway and I never snack mid morning. I'm getting hungry by 1ish but a nice tin of mackeral and a banana at 2 sort me out.

I considered the 5-2 diet but decided counting calories was more hassle than counting hours. I may try it if the 16-8 begins to show little result.

Been doing it since early March, our fast days are Monday and Thursday which means nothing to eat from from 8pm Sunday night to 7pm Monday night with the same Wednesday/Thursday and only drinks during he day on the fast days. It's been surprisingly easy and I went from 81kgs to 73kgs very qickly but has now stabilised at that weight. I started it because the doc said that I may have Type 2 Diabetes and I'd read Dr Micheal Moseley's book where he said that his blood sugars and cholesterol levels stabilised to normal levels within weeks. I had my 3 month blood test yesterday and am awaiting the results to see if diabetes is confirmed or not.

I dunno how you have the will power to do this diet.

I have to eat every 2/3 hours.

But I have lost 7 stone since Jan 2013. :-)

I thought the 5-2 diet meant 2 days of just 600 calories. Is it supposed to be a full fast for 2 days?

It is 600cals for men & 500 for women. And the days cannot be consecutive.

Yes, as previous poster noted M600/F500. It turned into a bit of a faff trying to count the calories so we opted to have nothing which was much easier for us and means that we can be sure that we are under the recommended calorie intake. Whether it makes any difference I don't know but I think I'm right in saying that Dr Michael Moseley totally fasted initially but found it too hard so switched to the 600 cals option.

My bloods came back as pre-diabetes which in some ways is good but after doing this fasting business I sort of expected them to come up as normal so in that sense it was a bit of a disappointment but will carry on anyway and repeat the blood tests again in 3 months.

Yes, 3-5 days a week. Do a good mix of weights and cardio.

5:2 (then ultimately 6:1) is meant to be something one follows indefinitely if you want to keep the weight off and reap the longterm health benefits. It really couldn't be easier, everyone I know who has tried it says the same.

Good luck!

Now ack on this with a vengence. Just seen pics of me in France, not a great look. The Mrs has done it on & off for a while but as of yesterday morning started again.
Starting with a BMI of nearly 40 so a long way to go.....

Did this last year before we got married with pretty good results.

However have slowly let the weight creep back on.... well when I say weight I basically mean a belly - a mate calls me the fattest thin bloke he knows.

I'm 5'10 and just over 12 stone so not huge but just want to lose half a stone or so down to 70-72kg would be ideal as it suits my frame etc.

Started three weeks ago and not had a great deal of luck so far, but mainly due to weekends of pretty large excess. So far droppped half a kilo hehe but I did put away a crate of lager and a large BBQ on Saturday night, followed by a Chinese on Sunday.

Cheers! Does one switch to 6:1 when the desired weight is reached then? So far so good, today is one of my "2" days, as was last Saturday. Hungry, yes, but not desperately. I've decided to have it as one meal in the evening as I really struggle to sleep when I'm hungry. I've had a cheeky weigh in this morning which I was pleased with, but will save the weekly results till Thursday...

That's the idea, or you can maintain 5:2 whilst being fairly liberal most of the week (including alcohol etc) and enjoy improved long term health and a stable weight. It's a no brainer!

I've been doing this for around 5-6 weeks now. I initially went from 14st7 to 13st12 in the first 2 weeks and haven't lost anything since.

What is has definately done though is helped me pack on some muscle, my arms have grown 3 inches since the start and chest, quads, lats, shoulders are noticably bigger. Dumbell bench press is up from 28kg to 38kg per arm in that time too. Granted I've trained in the past and am training very hard, but I'm hitting pb's most sessions now without really trying too hard on the diet, other than sticking to the 5:2 principle.

Granted its not been a long period of time but to stay the same weight and get much stronger and build some decent muscle must mean that I'm doing something right, and I can only really put it down to the diet.

...and you attribute that to 5:2?

Well...its the only thing that I'm doing now that I wasn't doing before anyway, naturally one arm is still bigger than the other

hehe
