Tyres are done to death I know, although the advice is usually limited to 19" wheels...what is the reckoning on these? I know PSS would be better, albeit more expensive and shorter lived...

Michelin Pilot Sport 3 PS3 - 235/40 R18 (95Y) XL TL

£117 each. Yay/nay?

Stick to 235s unless you want the insurance company to have any excuse come claim time and consider the excellent Falkens at a lot less per corner too

I just fitted the 245 MPSS to my 18 inch HSV GTO rims all around. Initially they look different, of course, almost looking too big, but you soon get used to it. And the grip so far is very impressive, although the rears squirm a lot at 80 mph on the dual carriageway under WOT. I bought mine from Lovetyres or something like that.

+£23 for that extra 10mm laugh

Was thinking 245 also, but will see how a Michelin 235 fits this time, especially since I'm not on OE wheels.

Thanks all, considered the Vreds but figure Michelin are #1 smile

Too late, but not too worried...part of the reason I bought a Monaro was I didn't want too much grip!

Now, to turn the last of my Bridgestones into smoke...smile

Kuhmo ku39 with a higher tyre wall rating , 245/35/18 they are not as expensive and grip very well , sessanta do good ones too , check out tyre reviews

I had all 4 tyres on CV8 changed to 245/40/18 Vred. Ultrac Sessantas, have to say, very impressed so far, just about fit with no catching on brakes/suspension etc. They look amazing too, the only thing is their tread pattern, the inner groove, sits on the inside, so one side of the car the grooves look right, the other side they look 'wrong' (you'll see from online reviews). If the look of the tyres is something important, they might not be the right choice for you, but grip, noise etc is all very good for the outlay (I felt the MPSS for me were too much as I don't drive the car hard enough to warrant them).

I'd have looked harder at the Vreds and Kuhmos if the PS3s weren't so reasonable. I agree, I probably don't need MPSS (same argument has me on VXR brakes rather than APs)...but I don't think anyone can argue that the PS3s are ditchfinders!

I recently went for Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas in standard 235/40/18 fit for the rear of my CV8. Very pleased. If anything they have too much grip as a bit of rear wheel steer pulling out of junctions now seems to take a lot more effort in the dry. Bargain at about £95 each from Camskill. I don't think the asymmetric tread pattern is an issue, looks-wise, although I can understand some OCD folk wishing they were fully directional. I think they look good.

I've got to be honest and say I wouldn't be happy with that in truth - forget the OCD thing, just from a bit of working out where the water is going to be ejected on each corner. Also what power is your car putting down???
