I think it depends where and how you drive.....
I like to use my Vantage daily. I have had a couple of track day events in Gallardos and it was great, really liked the noise and driving the car ....but I always imagine it to be a weekend car, for sunny days out rather than a car I can go to work in and leave at the airport (as you can do with an Aston)
in ideal world, I would have both...Aston to drive daily and Lambo for the weekend

I've got an itch.. Views?
Scratch it....Have to agree with Bogie,Aston says cool,Lambo says bling nowt wrong with that but most days I wouldn't be in the mood for the hassle,in London.
On a similar theme,I saw a Mclaren last Sunday in a fabulous iridescent liquid orange,it looked outstanding but not sure I could live with it all the time.

I seriously considered one about 4 months ago, I even had a dealer looking to source one for me. But I would have been buying at the bottom of the market and to get anything decent was just a bit too much money. So I decided against it and went for a GTR instead. I know it's a Nissan but it will still leave the Lambo for dead.

We looked at a spyder before we bought the S
Interior was too close to an Audi and storage for touring was none existant
Make sure it has the lift kit fitted!

They sound great!
Choosing between a V12V, a Gallardo, a 599, a 12C, or an SLS, is not easy for me. As others have rightly said, it really depends on where and when you want to drive them. I would always have another car for more regular duties, so would probably cross the V12V off as being a bit too sensible, although they are a lovely thing. A Gallardo is a very robust car, with worthwhile facelifts and updates throughout it's long life. I found that I suffered from budget creep when looking at them, because depreciation is slow and you keep looking at how much more you can get, for not a lot more money. Before you know where you are, you've gone from £60k to £100k in the space of a few classifieds! I have pretty much decided that if I got a Gallardo, it would be an LP560, but they are up around £100k+. If the budget doesn't stretch to that, it seems worth looking for an 06 onwards model. If it's not a Spider, the glass engine cover is a 'must have' for me and they don't all have them. Ask yourself how you would feel in your V12V if you saw a Gallardo and vice versa. Which would you rather be sat in? There is no right or wrong answer to that question. The Lambo (in 4WD form) forgives a ham fisted approach in a way that a V12V doesn't by the way. Just my 2p worth! Interesting subject though and I'll be watching this thread with interest.

A colleague of mine went from a 2006 DB9V to a Gallardo and said it was a huge mistake. He sorely missed the AM but it was sold and gone so he was stuck with the Gallardo for a few weeks till he found himself a Continental GT. He found the Gallardo pretentious and not fitting for a chap over 30 years old.
It's interesting to see that many people discount them because the interior isn't special enough. I found the same - having always wanted (and still do) a Gallardo, I found that the interior was the first big disappointment - it reminded me of my old A4 Avant! The Aston by comparision feels so much more special and bespoke.
I was also disappointed with the performance - yes it's quick but I was expecting it to be much quicker. It was faster than the 4.3 V8 but it seemed a long way off how fast the V12V feels.
The prices for Gallardos now are quite attractive and they really hold their value well so I'm just trying to convince my other half that a Gallardo Spyder is the perfect compliment for a V12V - I reckon you can buy one now - keep it for 12 - 24 months and not lose too much in dpereciation and they are such a great looking car.

I see from your profile you have experienced a lot of variety in vehicles...why not join a supercar hire club for a year and hire a few out for long weekends, it might help the decision making
I know of a couple of guys who have done that and ended up with different cars to what they *thought* they wanted in the first place

This really surprises me. The later models of Gallardo in particular, are seriously fast cars. I owned a beautiful low mileage 2005 DB9 coupe in Midnight Blue with sandstorm leather and blue carpets. The car was a real belter.
In January 2013 in a moment of madness I traded it in for a manual 2006 Gallardo coupe in Grigio Proteus grey , black leather interior and silver callisto wheels.
The car was a 2006 model. I was advised to go for this year or later as by then apparently Audi had sorted most of the early problems the Gallardo had been prone to.
The car was fitted with a switchable Larini sport exhaust and had been "de-catted ". The latter point caused a subsequent MOT failure. In "loud" mode the exhausts belched flames on the over-run.
The car was fun for the first couple of months. I would not describe it as particularly fast even though the engine was a V10 520 BHP . I suspect a V12 Vantage would have eaten it.
For me however several issues soon took the shine off owning the car. The first was the constant attention it got wherever I drove it , with other drivers coming alongside and close behind snapping away with mobile phones and cameras. That really p***ed me off ! Also I was afraid to leave it anywhere in case it was damaged.
In addition it did not have the front lift system , essential here in Plymouth where I live as the place is infested with speed humps.
Next was the problem of servicing, the nearest main dealer being in Birmingham , a long way from Plymouth. I had one annual service which set me back £2042-87 .
The cost of parts was astronomical, for example an oil filter ( paper element type ) was just over £44.
10 months after I bought it I decided the car had to go. It was simply not practical for me . I took a big hit on trade in for an Audi R8 , which in my opinion is an infinitely better and more usable car, even though it is based on and shares many parts with the Gallardo.
If I'm honest it was a mistake to part with the DB9 . If I could have bought it back , believe me I would have done so !

Great post and I think you are right. the idea of a lambo appeals to me, but I'm sure the reality would be a much harder pill to swallow. In January 2013 in a moment of madness I traded it in for a manual 2006 Gallardo coupe in Grigio Proteus grey , black leather interior and silver callisto wheels.
