Cable ID please

I had to abandon the car at a friends house last night due to a misfire and cutting out problem. He's had a look at it today and has spotted a burnt cable resting on the nearside exhaust manifold.
This cable emerges from the bulkhead beneath the wiper motor and follows the induction pipe to a black plastic box (where the induction pipe goes into the front of the car).
I have to go there tomorrow to fix it but it would be useful to know what I'm working on!
Thanks for any info.

On both my chims the cabling to the alarm horn followed this route. It’s the only bit of electrical kit at the front nearside of the car apart from the otter switch on later models.
I’m not sure exactly how the alarms logic circuits work but maybe if it thinks the siren has been cut off then the immobiliser will come on.
Wouldn’t really explain your symptom though.
Only other cable that side is the one to the afm but car should still start and it doesn’t go all the way to the front.
You haven’t got some strange torque flow induction or similar have you?

It was the fan switch cable, so was unrelated to the problem, which on the way home evolved as serious shunting at all speeds. In 7 years with the car this is the first time I have experienced it shunting.
So far I have cleaned the stepper and sprayed 'start-it' around all joints and pipe connections to the plenum and stepper, but no sign of an air leak there.
Just before the problem started I had put 20 quids worth of BP in a low tank so it seems likely that either some rubbish has been drawn through the system or the fuel was dodgy, so the next step is to drain the tank and try a couple of gallons of new fuel before I resort to flushing the whole system.
Swallet, no fancy induction system!
