What to do. The bottom end has gone on our 06 Mazda 6 Estate, 2l diesel at 97000 miles and in good condition otherwise. Wondering what to do as apparently this is not uncommon on this engine around 100000 miles. Scrap it? Reluctant. Source a 2nd hand engine? Fix it? Has this happened to anyone else? Was wanting to keep it until it died, wasn't expecting that to be so soon
Thanks for helpful comments!

The easy fix is a scrap yard engine with less miles
Main bearings and big ends are not to difficult just a bit of a mission for the home mechanic with limited tools and knowledge

I think the problem is down to the oil pickup clogging up.

So buying used, when the engines are known to have problems could be a minefield.

The bigger question is just how badly damaged is your own ?

Whilst a full stripdown would be costly in terms of labour, if parts required were only gaskets, some bearings and a crank re-grind...if you intend to keep the car, this should be a better prospect
