Recommend me an attenuator?

As per my ebay thread, I recently aquired a new Marshall. A 1987x plexi reissue in fact. I love it but it is incredibly loud...
Would a Powerbrake (or copy built from a schematic) or a Hotplate help calm it down? Running my LP through it even on about 1.2 out of 10 is far too loud in a rehearsal room without earplugs, and I simply can't use it at home.
Or would modding it to fit a PPIMV be a better bet?
