Ok so naturally when I tamper with one thing it leads to another.

I filled up the car today and after a short run the car smelt heavily of petrol.

After checking the fuel rail for leaks I discovered that the fuel line is split and leaking around the nipple/banjo at the back of the fuel rail just under the bulkhead.

So I guess I need to remove the fuel rail again...

Question is, can I just cut the hard fuel pipe below the split and reconnect to the nipple or should I be replacing the whole fuel line? If so how big a job is that?

Secondly the fuel line is a hard plastic that I couldn't twist off the nipple/banjo before, so what's the trick to getting it on and off the nipple/banjo?

soak the banjo and end of the pipe in a jug of hot water, whatever you can get in the space available to work with, that should do the trick.

From removing my engine it looked heat shrunk on to me. I cut mine hard up against the banjo and will heat back on or make a coupler.
