Following on from my question about dsg boxes, thanks for all the help, test drove one today, like it, but not the car it was attached to, the usual `mint` condition poo.
Anyway, back to this question, anything I should know about, will more than likely be a petrol not diesel, however how bullet proof are either because i`m not bothered about milage if condition and history are good.

Reliability is fairly typical VAG (hardly surprising when you consider almost all of the mechanical parts are shared between the various companies). So not class leading, but not dire either.

In the couple of years we've had ours so far the fuel pump has "failed" (it still worked but threw up an error), the air con compressor seized and one of the door lock actuators failed. Oh and the sat nav has gone loopy but we don't use it anyway because it's complete rubbish even if it works. They also link to drink oil (about one litre every 2-3000 miles in ours), but again no worse than anything else with the 2.0 TFSI engine - not an issue as such, but it does mean that some have been run with too little oil.

ETA: Oh and I had to replace the front lower wishbone bushes (and indeed the wishbones themselves, since they're one part) due to wear.

Also beware of failed ESP control modules - if the ESP light doesn't come on then go out correctly walk away. They're a known problem and not cheap to replace.

Briskoda
is the forum you need to check out.
Mine is on 88k and I've had the 1st non service item fail.
It does drink oil but mpg is high 30's on a run but a bit rubbish around town.
The suspension needs a 4 whell alignment fairly regular otherwise you end up with knackard tyres.
Its nice being able to embarrass people who think a skoda will be slow

I've had my 2008 PD estate since 2009. It's done 60000 miles now at high 40s mpg average.
Had injectors changed under recall @ 40k @ 1x EGR changed @45k (300 for new genuine one fitted)
Aerial base changed .
Not 1 other problem , by far the most reliable car I've owned & no intention of selling which says a lot.
1 downside, Skoda seem to have scrimped on sound proofing, they are noisier than VW equivalent In my opinion. Make sure you have a proper test drive on typical British Beirut style road surfaces & motorway to see what I mean ..

Also, avoid 18 inch wheels. They're dire.

Just had a look on Briskoda, seem to be an awful lot of camchain problems on the tfsi. So perhaps it will be a diesel afterall.

It hasn't got a cam chain; it's a belt?

ETA: Actually it looks like it changed around 2008. Earlier cars are belt, later are chains.

Who me ?

Check out the cambelt replace intervilles on Briskoda for a diesel . If it need doing soon, then it's not a pleasant experience for wallet. If you find one you like, again asking if anyone knows the car on Brisky might pay dividends.

Cambelt/water pump currently 459 at Skoda main dealer , if it needs doing...
Supposed to be done at 4 years but 6 years in Mainland Europe as I guess they are less tolerant at being ripped off . I opted for the European interval!
