Audi A3 2.0 T FSI Quattro Sport

I recently posted a thread on this site regarding the need for a diesel, 80-100 miles a day, battered on fuel etc blah blah.

I was content with the idea of buying a diesel until today. My other half wanted to go up and see a new car, and whilst with her a lovely blue Audi A3 2.0 TFSI Quattro. I'm not sure if you can link on this site, but basically here's the info.

220bhp
2006 plate
119k.

At first I was slightly put off by the 119k miles, but I thought I'd take it round for a drive anyway. I was looking for little things like rattling when going over bumpy parts of road, whistling from the turbo, any sign of stress from the engine etc but there was nothing wrong. Even the gear changes were smooth. The brakes had that 'like new' sharpness you get. It just drove like a dream. Recent new timing chain.

It's got full AUDI service history (14 services) and I'm just begging the question. How long will I realistically get out of this? If I keep it regularly serviced and well looked after, surely it will last an age?

It's £4900, and the only thing stopping me taking it home today was the fact that my ins. company aren't open on weekends so I couldn't call for a quote.

If you think there is something I am overlooking, please notify me before I make a howler?! Thanks!

Has the cambelt been changed? Has the turbo had any maintainence done to it? are the first two questions the pop into mind

We had one of these and the whole was a very good car. We kept it well maintained and as such it never ever let us down. One thing is for sure though, if it has the s-line suspension you will soon get to know your osteopath very well

The '06 2.0 tfsi was 197 bhp not 220. +1 for the ride if it's S-Line, can be too firm.

Cam belt, water pump, clutch/flywheel are things I'd be looking for a proper receipt for or budgeting to do. and if it's the same mechanically as the A4 the fuel pump cam follower can be a weak point.

Easy 200,000 miles;

• 60k or every 5 years for cambelt (£299 or £399 with waterpump) Seat dealers are usually cheapest if you can trust them or price match with Audi

• Switch to yearly / 10,000 miles service schedule

• Change cam follower just as a precaution (if you plan to keep for big miles)

• Make sure you check the receipts for the big items, Audi HQ service computer will know!

• Other service items on EA113 engine (DV, PCV) annoying but never fatal

They're 200bhp not 220 I think. Seats Leon's did 220 version though.

Loads about if you don't want the milage. S line a little more for leather and body kit. Golf gti with the same milage would be similar price may a little more but not a huge amount.


Tbh I'd say you could get lower milage for the money if that's what concerns you.

Yeah I've checked all the service history, most if not all of the main culprits for destroying wallets has been done within last 20k. Waterpump was done few weeks ago when they got it. Thanks for the advice!

Yeah I know there is, this one is the Red Leather though that immediately took to my liking. However this dealer has catered to my needs (current high HP remaining on my car), so I feel it's a good option. Just hoping there is nothing I'm missing, but what you guys have said on here is everything I looked for bar a couple of things. Thanks!

£134 p/m fully comp.

Everyone else wanted minimum £220 p/m and +£500 deposit so I was massively shocked.

Now it's confirmed I'm going to finalise everything tomorrow morning, they're going to give it general housekeeping/leather treatment etc, should pick it up by the end of the week.

The next stage will be to make it look how I want it too, I assume that will be the part that really breaks the bank.

Why on earth would you be content to spend £2000 a year insuring an 8 year old A3? If it was a Ferrari or something fair enough but this seems like £2000 thrown straight in the bit, it simply isn't worth that level of insurance expenditure. I'd strongly reconsider this if that really is the best quote you can find.

I understand your point. My folks are paying the deposit for the ins, so it's only costing me £1300 (£134 * 10 Payments) which is what I'm paying on my 1.4 Ibiza now anyway..

reference the mods you plan to make: it's very likely that for every £1 spent you'll devalue it by £1.
Given a few years you'll own a high mileage modified car that will not be easy to sell for the kind of money you're likely to want.

Your young, you only live once, if you can afford all of the running costs, I hope you have an amazing time with it and drive it wisely!

Buy it. Drive it for 2 years and sell at 140k just to be safe.

I wouldn't bother with "mods".. been there done that I now think the audi a3's are the ultimate chav mobile.. to the point Im selling mine to get away from this "culture"... being pulled over every fortnight, and the fact every other ethnic lad from leeds/bradford/huddersfield has one pimped to the hills with s line bits etc....

Just my thoughts anyway..

I had one (in s-line trim), never got pulled, and insurance was cheap (think age is the factor here, not the car).

I did sell it to an "ethnic" lad from Preston though...

That's the thing, I'm a total noob to all this lot. It'll be more aesthetics then performance tuning, but I don't know the first thing about it. Will take a lot of research to be honest, if anyone wants to come forward with beginner tips then let me know lol!

I agree to an extent. However, I'm obsessed with things being tidy. So I'm not talking huge backbox, massive golden rims, hoods etc. Just small things that you wouldn't really notice on their own, but they add something to the car. I don't want to be spending silly money anyway.

I'd like a kit on it, as I'm not really a fan of the ars'end on them I must admit. That's about as far as I'd stretch pricewise (unless I'm drastically underestimating the price of footwell lights, puddle lights, tints etc).
