Air filter element seal.
Discussion
Hi Peeps...Just wondering as i removed the K&N yesterday so that i could clean it..I know it recommends smearing a little bit of oil on the mating surfaces when fitting back which i do but my question is:
Is there anything else that could act as a seal between the filter and 2 x Filter housing plates
I have found some nitrile "O" rings that would fit on the outer face of the filter and wondered if these would help to seal it against the plates, The reason being that at present air seems to be getting pulled in from the outer edge of the filter.....Is it worth considering?...Thanks...Ziga

I am guessing you are using the standard air filter housing? If so the filter doesn't seal up particularly well so either ditch the housing and go for a different K&N that goes over the air flow meter, or create a soft gasket from high density foam and soak in oil before fitting. This will help the filter seal up.

Hi mate...Thats correct...I have ordered some 140mm ID "O" rings with a cross section of 4mm as a tester, These should help seal it to the plates if not then i might use a closed end filter...Cheers...Zigaadam quantrill said:
I used a bit of sponge on the 350i - simple and effective.
I was thinking of something like that but i didn't want anything to soft or anything that could possibly break down and get sucked into the plenum....I have ordered some 140mm x 4mm thick "O" rings to see if they make a difference, They were only cheap so it doesn't matter if they don't....ZigaGassing Station | Wedges | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
