Auto Trader - what does "recommended" mean?

Anyone know? When you search for a car, the otherwise excellent mobile app rather irritatingly defaults to "recommended" sorting, rather than price high-low for example.

Now, at least one of top cars in "recommended" is not from a dealer that has even the remotest amount of quality press across internet land.

So, WTF does "recommended" mean?!

It means the seller's paid more to have the ad highlighted and prioritised in the search results.

An interesting use of the word "recommended" then, if that's the only criteria. Basically, Auto Trader are inferring they personally recommend a seller, when in actual fact it's just more "sponsored results". Naughty. And daft.
