help me choose, which one?
Discussion
I want a new watch but I can't decide which one to get.
The first watch is a Tag Monaco limited edition.

I've always liked the Monaco and i really like the dial colours of this limited edition especially as it looses the "tag" naming. Not to keen on a leather strap but it doesn't look right with a steel bracelet.
The second watch is a Rolex milgauss.

I don't why I'm drawn to this watch but I just am. It only came on my radar a week ago although I'm not keen on the lighting bolt second hand.
Which one would you choose?

They're poles apart in terms of styling and functionality. I've never really 'got' the Monaco, so it would be the Rolex for me (it's also likely to have a better residual value if that's a concern).
Plenty out there that's a bit different from the norm at that price point. Might be worth a 'what could I buy for £x' type post for a few more suggestions, just to see if there's anything else grabs you.
Or just buy both!

My personal choice would definitely be the Rolex. I am biased as I own a Rolex Explorer 214270 but I think the Rolex would suit many more occasions than the Tag.
Within the world of WIS there seems to be a lot of ill feeling towards Tag, in fairness opinion is pretty split on Rolex too :-)

I've always quite fancied a Monaco, but not that one (or the Gulf ones so many seem to work themselves into a frenzy over...), so it'd be the Milgauss for me (one of the few Rolexes I like).
If it was a white on black faced Chrono Monaco, I'd probably reverse my decision.

I quite understand where you are coming from in your comment but venture to disagree ,( in a pleasant manner ).If it was a white on black faced Chrono Monaco, I'd probably reverse my decision.

On the basis that the Tag ,although respected, will depreciate a lot ,the Monaco Calibre 11 is a highly distinctive and individual bit of kit.
Your choice is,albeit classic and arguably "smarter" ,does not have quite the same unique appeal.
On the basis of the above I would probably go for the timeless appeal of the Rolex which has the kudos of the brand.

Buying most new watches is going to lose you money even over 10-15 years, and certainly over 2-3, so the only reason is to get something you like.
I don't like that Monaco, but I do like the standard ones, so I'd be happy spending my money on one of those (probably a used one, though)

I now understand that you were commenting on a purely subjective basis and therefore it is obviously your choice.

I am new to this forum and I am learning more as I go along.
I am surprised how many of you have quite a large collection of watches.
I've basically had the same Seiko watch for 30 years with a 18ct Omega De Ville and a classic JLC both dated from the 1960's that I inherited but rarely wear.
I can however well understand the enthusiasm of you guys as it is very infectious.

Leave now, whilst your sanity and bank balance are intact! I am new to this forum and I am learning more as I go along.
