Garmin owners.... How do you keep your flap shut???

Evening all,

I have an Edge 800. As anyone who has one will know, it has a nice little rubber flap which goes into and over the USB socket to keep out rain and mud when cycling.

So far, so good, but I'm on my second one now, and neither of them has ever wanted to actually shut! No matter how gently or how hard I pushed the thing in, it invariably decided to pop back out for the first couple of dozen attempts each time until eventually, by some sort of pure fluke, it would hold in place.

Has anyone figured out how to get it to stay in place at the first time of asking?

Not really had many big problems, but it is a bit of a faff.

Never had any issues with mine, just goes in and stays in? Just don't play with it too much

Mine stays in place, but for things like this that don't stay in place as they should (Lizard skins bar-end plugs I'm looking at you) I find that a dab of tubular cement enhances cooperation.

My 810 has just been replaced under warranty too (charging socket corroded)
Replacement one, the flap does not shut properly either - notice there is a small screw that acts as a pivot.

Wondering if smearing a small amount of silicone grease around rubber, to provide water proof seal (bearing in mind rubber has to be removed regularly to charge the garmin).
But obviously don't want grease to get into charging socket.

Mine fell off my Edge 500, so I just use a bit of electrical tape now.

I'm probably teaching you to suck eggs now, but you can't simply just push the flap in and close it. It usually requires a little lift up to slot the rubber plug into the hole and then push it closed.

Personally not had an issue with this coming open on my 800, however I do agree that it doesn't close tightly enough to fill you with confidence that it is fully rain proof, but so far so good

the rubber plug felt out of my 200 ages ago, i use a small piece of duct tape now which is far better!

Another vote for a bit of Duck Tape on yer flaps.

Having said that I recently upgraded to a 3T Integra LTD stem and that does protect the rear of the unit better from the elements. Duck Tape is a lot cheaper though.

This post is the answer. You have to angle it to slot the pokey bits on the flap into the hole properly. This doesn't happen if you just push it shut!
