Hi all,

I have fully de catted my 400 which sounds good, the problem is the fumes which bothers my wife to the point she doesn't want to go in the car is there any other solution other than re fitting the y with the cat and sleeving the box?

Thanks

Rob

Id take the car to an MOT station and get a gas test on its own (about £15 at a guess), and see if the hydrocarbons and CO are in spec' for a non cat car- get the readings, not simply a pass or fail, as the allowance is quite wide, this will pick up un burnt fuel more accurately than just the fuel trim values. I dont run cats and the exhaust does not smell apart from when stone cold. You might have a leak some where.

When mine was decatted I had a leak between the manifolds and the cat and this was allowing fumes into the cabin. I only noticed it when I was looking in the engine bay and saw a sooty residue around the join. Up to that point I had just assumed that driving with no cats was always like that!

Found a gap between the y and the manifold, got that fixed and will take it for a rip later. Thanks for the advice, got a few days off so will try and get an emission reading

Not sure what the fumes smell of but I would check the fuel pipes into the injection system. If you have been taking the manifolds off, they may have been disturbed.
