Very glad to hear this, I was assuming that no news was bad news.

"out of a coma" doesn't mean he's going to be walking or talking any time soon, or indeed ever though

No-one, but people seem to be getting excited and hoping he makes a full recovery. Sadly I think this is not going to happen

I think his family have been amazing through this, focussed entirely on Michael and not the endless updates the press want.

I hope one day we'll see a recovered Schuey walking, talking and enjoying life with his family.

I have that feeling you're right. The latest press release feels a little on the cynical side trying to sell the being out of a coma bit when they said that back in April. Dr Harstein seems of a similar opinion. I wonder if Michawel will jsut disssappear now. The likes of Andrew Benson will write another story when the 12 month anniversary rolls round and then it will just be internet rumour. I really hope I'm so wrong though.

Gary Hartstein knows a lot more than any of us, and his blog is about as pessimistic as it can be, I don't think there is (and maybe never will be) any cause for relief or celebration.

Gary's copping a bit of unwarranted flak too if you read some of the comments on there

interesting that the '183 day' rule is mentioned as a possible reason for Michaels move

Hartstein has never stated anything apart from his own take on proceedings based on his expertise and experience. The hate he gets from some is disgusting.

How would the 183 day rule impact this decision? Just interested really, not questioning it.

Some of the comments on that blog are just plain mental! Fans demanding that they have a right to know!? WTF? The guy's been in a coma, has a family and they're the ones who have to decide what to say, but they're not MS so why should they accede to the masses? Why should they open their hearts to the press, just so everyone can saw "aww...", it'll not make a jot of difference.

And if he's been moved to avoid paying tax in France, that's fine, who knows the outcome of his condition, and I'm sure the care he's received and will continue to receive will not be cheap. Plus with a family to still consider, they're only right to protect their assets IMHO.

That's not the way I had read the posts.

Most seem to suggest that the family has no need to get engaged. The general thought it that if the family wants to end speculation as to his condition then the solution is in their hands, or rather in the hands of his PR team which, over the years, has proved equal to the demands of the press.

I've had a quick read through and no one I can find has suggested the fans who followed him right up until the 2012 season have a right to know. I'm not sure if anyone mentioned the masses, just the fans.

I think that most reckon they might appreciate having a fairly regular official update from the PR team.

I was reading it couple of nights ago... Seems the maddest comments have been removed. There was a lot of chest beating over fans having an absolute right to know exactly, blow by blow, what was happening. They helped line his pockets dammit! etc.

Perhaps the family and PR team are happy to let the press speculate, safe in the knowledge it'll just drop to a footnote after the next shiney distraction comes along. At then end of the day, they have made their position perfectly clear, unless there's a significant update they will not be issuing any official updates.

I can't see what a regular update would do to help anyone here, other than "No, nothing's changed", "Still nothing". Other than try to placate a ravenous press, which as said, I think the best way is to just to keep quiet, let them speculate for a few weeks and then move on to fresh meat.

You've got to run with what exists. If there's no information then we cannot blame the press if they speculate.

Press management is what MSc used to excel at. It seems odd to abandon such a strength.

Well, currently he has no say in it what so ever... I can only imagine the pain and fear his family are feeling, so perhaps that's their way to try and keep some control?
