AMV8 battery condition fuse?
Discussion
Hi all, I am a new participant to the forum as and Aston Owner, have been lucky enough over the years to own some quite interesting cars.
My question, put simply is, is there a fuse that controls the battery condition circuit, the plug for which is in the boot (trunk) please?
Expanded explanation, I tested the three pin plug for the Aston battery conditioner (BTW, in this process I took the plug out, there are only wires to the top and bottom inputs the third pin at the rear is unassigned I.e No wire) for polarity with a multi meter and got a reading. I made up a plug to go in that socket and to connect to my existing batter conditioner. It worked fine for two weeks and then on plugging in the charger it showed no feed back from the battery. The same MM test showed no V reading, I removed the plug and traced the wires to a jack plug behind the rear fuse box I checked the lines for continuity and power, nothing, after that the wires go into the loom. I have RTFM'd the manual and checked any likely fuses that may control this circuit and all are o.k. I am now charging through the 12v power socket in the boot but would prefer to use the dedicated port.
The other thing, and there have been threads on this, on engaging reverse the operating light comes on the sensor button the centre console and there is a short activation beep, BUT no signal back from the sensors, nearly backed into a very unfriendly natural stone wall but luckily don't rely on them. Any thoughts on this problem, is it the module unit or one of the sensors.
Thanks to you all in advance, GW

Welcome,
(BTW, AMV8 usually refers to the V8 car from the '70s & '80s. V8V is the usual abbreviation for the Gaydon V8 Vantage).

It's not the operating light, it's the mute light! Try pressing it again when you next select reverse.(BTW, AMV8 usually refers to the V8 car from the '70s & '80s. V8V is the usual abbreviation for the Gaydon V8 Vantage).
Bravo V8V, thank you for your input and the affirmative use of an exclamation mark!? However, pressing the button when reverse is selected makes no difference. When selecting reverse the amber light on the button illuminates and even pressing it briefly, or pressing and holding it, doesn't either switch it off, or the sensors on, also why is this not mentioned in the handbook, is I it more of a 'general guide' than a definitive owners reference document?
There also appears on some of the strings to some confusion as to 'when it is on it is off' and 'when it is off it is on' which may, or may not, vary from MY to MY.

My apologies, I think that I've given you a 'bum steer'. I've just had a look at the pdf copy of my user's manual and the light shows you that the system is on:
"When the system is operating, the button lamp illuminates and an intermittent ‘beep’ signal will be heard. The ‘beep’ frequency increases in pitch and persistence as the vehicle reverses to an obstruction."
I'm guessing that your system might be goosed. It might have to be connected to the AM diagnostics system to fault find it.

Consider my 'bum' steered!
Your quote was exactly as it reads my handbook. I have checked the reversing sensor module fuse and it is intact, so I believe 'goosed' we are. I thought I would 'put it out there' in case I was missing something. Grange Aston, Exeter, who have been very helpful, say that failures of these are rare as they are a generic set up and are not exactly new technology. So off to the diagnostic, or the supplying independent dealer are allegedly going to get their auto electrician on the case. Hmmm, waiting we are, as Yoda would say.

You can usually hit that button and it turns the system on - not useful if you don't have front beepers as selecting reverse does it automatically for the rear ones.
On cars that I've know when they fail its usually always on (and the beeping noise drives you mad) as a single sensor has failed. You can press the button to turn the system on, then walk around the car and tap each sensor - if they're all dead, its something more central/common.
But... you've mentioned a battery charger - is your battery low? I've seen no end of strange electrical gremlins creep into cars if the battery is low/faulty.

Hi Jon1967x and thanks for your reply. I have noted several strings which have raised the problems associated with poor battery condition. Immediately prior to this I had an XKR and this seemed to display very little battery drain, the V8V seems to have a heavy drain even with the isolation switch engaged,,this is what prompted me to a) use the conditioner and b) to arrange it a bit more permanently than clips onto the battery. At this time the battery is showing quick recharging and power retention so I don't think it is a battery related problem.
Supplying independent dealer picked up the car this am and just returned it. The problem with the reversing sensors was indeed that one had failed, fortunately one of the middle ones so no bumper off required, but it does seem to be a case of a union problem..........errrr one out all out!
Graham, can I just take this opportunity to point out that you are in serious breach of the forum rules.
You have posted at least twice about your Aston and yet to include pictures. I hope you see fit to make recompense as soon as possible......

Fair comment, come on Graham, you've been hanging around long enough to know the rules!Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
