Selling car, buyer want to use paypal

Quick message to see wether people on here think this is a scam?
I have advertised my mini for sale and it has been for about 6 weeks, had some interest and one sale that fell through. the car is up for going for £850
I received the following message last night:
Buyer: Thanks for your response.Am interested in buying.How long have you owned it?? what's your actual price for it and when last was it serviced?
Me: Hi I have owned it since last august. Final price for the car is £850 the car will need trailer if away as the engine has been removed. I have a replacement engine that will go with the car this has had the head stripped down and cleaned up. Also the car will require putting back together and painting as the body has been been partially prepared for paint. Many new components including polybushes and new shocks have been added.
Buyer: Nice Hearing back from you..I'm quite satisfied with the condition and price..I want you to get back to me with your PayPal email so i can start with the Payment now....mind you, you won't release your ad until PayPal credit your account before you will release it so it can be pick and i will handle the pick up so you don't need to worry about pick up okay. I will need your home address for it to be Picked Up by the Shipping Company
Me: Hi I would prefer cash on collection or bank transfer as PayPal isn't the most secure method to transfer funds. I don't mind it for small amounts but for £850 I would prefer cash when you come to collect or a bank transfer.
Buyer: am sorry PayPal is the only way i can pay you i wish had more options ...if you want to sell it for me you can get back to me with your PayPal email now so i can pay you.
I'm a bit concerned this doesn't sound too legit. what am i opening myself up for if i am to go down this route?

I would not get involved with that.
If some one is that genuine they would have at least put in a phone call to you.
Far too many scams about when selling cars.
Personally I stick with cash on collection, even bank transfers are not that safe as they can still request re transfer of funds back from the account

Its a scam.
Keep him going with other silly changes like you have taken all the tyres off and replaced them with bald ones, each time increase the price a bit.

Can the buyer do a claim back for a car through paypal? I know that they always side with the buyer, but surely with a car there is documentation that the transaction has taken place.
No idea how paypal works for cars.
I'd be tempted to just stick to cold hard cash. If they really want the car then they'll stump it up.
