Anyone ever had any problems with the Right Hand Side rotary push button on their PCM 2 unit (03 996 Turbo)?

I have just taken my unit apart (very carefully) to fix a broken SIM card tray, which now works beautifully (thanks to some great advice from this forum). Unfortunately the centre push on the RHS rotary push button (mode selector) does now not work.. doh!

I was really careful about separating all the ribbon cables and connectors inside the unit when I had it apart, still looks like I wasn't careful enough...Grrr.

Have subsequently taken it apart twice more to re-seat the connectors with no luck..

Anyone got any ideas or know of any PCM specialists in the Guildford area?

Thanks..8-/

Did you get any joy with this ? I had the same problem - not fixed it for various reasons but I reckon the ribbon cable connecting the screen to the main PCB got crimped...

Dave, yeah did get it fixed. I once again took the unit out of the dash and broke it down and found that as I had previously levered out the PCB from the casing (with a small screwdriver) I had inadvertently nicked the very edge of the PCB and broken a track running down the very edge of the board. This track turned out to be the signal from the centre push on the RHS PCM select button.

To fix it I simply soldered a very small wire ( very carefully) across the broken track. It took ages to find as I was convinced that it must have been a ribbon cable problem. I still can't believe that I was clumsy enough to chip the PCB!

Hope this helps.
