I have always loved LM style race cars. Then I came across this morning and cant stop thinking about itbiggrin

So first how difficult would this car be to own for a private purchaser?

Is it still eligible for any race series?

If its not where else could you run it?

And who do you know who would be qualified to run it on your behalf and would Porsche still support it?

very difficult. I believe even private owned ones had to have support from Porsche back when they raced. When Porsche pulled the plug they pretty much stopped racing don't thing they would sell parts for them.

Unless you are on first name terms with some very important people at Porsche and have the sort of budget to do Le Mans 'for real' in LMP2 then forget it.

If you rally have the lust for racing an old LM car you would do far better looking at buying a 956/962.

On the other hand, as indicated, if you wouldn't think twice about waking up in your Hyde Park apartment, dropping into Spa mid morning for a few hours at a track day in your Enzo and then off for dinner and to your box at the ballet in Paris then you might have some luck.

If Canepa's "usual" stuff is anything to go by, that isn't going to be cheap...

Well that is true but in general the quality of their stock is top notch as is the reputation of the company and what they do.

One thing that keeps leading me back to the USA at the moment is that with the strength of the pound being what it is at the moment, if you apply a little bit of man math all of a sudden a silly purchase starts to look a lot less silly;)

Its not a daft idea if youve got the funds to run it.

You can race the car with the SVRA - http://www.svra.com/ in America where you can compete against other ex le mans cars Audi R8, Lolas another Porsche RS Spyder, Pescarolo etc. - here some pictures from 2011 http://www.sportscarillustrated.com/News_2011/A/ne...

a report from 2014 - http://bayshoreracing.com/news/2014/3/4/frankie-an...

Only issue will be finding someone to run and maintain the car id presume these guys would do it - http://gunnarracing.com/ as they ran the RS Spyder at Sebring earlier this year but the site hasnt been updated in a while, twitter account is active though. https://twitter.com/gunnarracing

Can also try these guys, they run an Audi R8 and the Pescarolo http://www.gmtracing.com/events/sebring/

Thing is you could buy a late 70s le mans car and run it all over europe in CER, plus being at the sharp end of the fastest grid at Classic Le Mans.

You could also grab an 80s/90s Group C car for a bit more and do similar, racing against a full grid of similar cars, running in the Le mans support race and as top of the bill for Silverstone Classic.

Both of these options would be cheaper to run, easier to run/manage and have thriving series to compete in.
