Love of my life?
Discussion
Hi guys, I've been driving a horrid 02 corsa 1.2 for a while now and I'm now desperate for something a bit more grown up, I love the look of corolla t sports and think they would make a good all rounder. Bare in mind I've only ever owned my corsa, I wont notice the "terrible handling" or lack of low end torque that people seem to talk about in regards to the t sport. My heart is pretty set on it but what other options are out there, I really want something that I'm going to love? Civics are nice but have become too common and chavvy in my opinion but I am interested in other options. Thanks for any suggestions and advice.
Unless you're dead-set on a hot-hatch, I'd suggest a Celica ahead of the Corolla TSport. It has the positive attributes of the Corolla (reliability, revvy engine, good value) and adds good looks and handling. I'm assuming you're young-ish, in which case you might be worried by insurance but in my experience a Celica 190/TSport is surprisingly cheap to insure.
I love my car now, but as an all-rounder I'd say my Celica was still the best car I've owned. If you look carefully, you will get a good one for well under £5k.
You seem aware of the percieved shortcomings of the Corolla, I doubt very much it's as bad as some suggest and it has a degree of charm as the forgotten hot hatch of its time - but I think you could do much better for the money.

Just to add to that - you mentioned Civics, I know what you're saying about them being a bit chavvy, but there's no getting away from the fact that they're popular because they're good. If you can get a well taken care of and original Type R and keep it that way, I think it's still a fine looking car with character. Keep it completely standard and in good nick and I think most petrolheads would see you as a cut above the naff chavvy ones with stupid exhausts and matt black bonnets and all that crap. And, although I do like the Corolla, the Civic will keep you more interested behind the wheel.

I know a well kept civic is what to look for but I'm a sucker for an underdog, something understated and subtle you know? Plus personally, I genuinely Like the look of the t sport more than the civic don't get me wrong I know they are good cars and I'm keeping them in mind but its just the sheer number of them out there. Some one will be along in a minute to recommend an estate/ motorbike/ Bicycle and an Mx5.
I also expect you'll be told to stop being silly and get a mortgage.
Anyway.. Thought about going French?
They're the king of hot hatches and you get a lot more for your money compared to equivalent Jap stuff?

I'm in a similar situation and can't seem to pull myself away from a Clio 182 as the next car. Fast, small, looks ok, drives excellent... Civic type r has been considered but isn't exciting me for some reason.
Personally I really dislike the corolla.
Have you considered a fiesta st? Might be more of an all rounder.
