Replacment, or new licence?

20 years ago, my wife had a provisional licence.

She stopped learning to drive, and when she moved, lost the licence.

She now wants to start learning again, so does she need a replacement licence, or a new one?

Phone DVSA (or whatever it's called this week ) and ask? Regardless, either will be "photo" 2 part licences nowadays .

Be interesting to find her original provisional, and see if it's valid still... 20 years ago, from memory, a provisional lasted until the holder's 70th birthday (this was true in 1987 when I got my provisional - I passed my car test in '90 - but was not applicable to motorcycles for which a provisional only lasted 2 years then a year's disqualification from riding motorcycles on L-plates came into force, rinse and repeat every 3 years back then ).

Only a few years before this, provisional licences only lasted a couple of years (for any vehicle) and needed to be renewed regularly!

UK Provisional licence expires on the holders 70th birthday.

However, she'll need to get the new photo card licence which lasts 10 years.

We were just trying to get an idea of where we stood, Google was finding nothing.
