Treating a stubborn cough
Discussion
Hi All,
About 2 weeks ago I got a temperature/flu. This has now passed, but a stubborn cough has persisted. I took Locketts, which gives temporary relief, and now benilyn (sp?), which seems to be a bit better, but a sore throat returns (though to be fair, the bottle says take 3-4 doses in 24 hours, I've taken 2 with a gap of 11 or so hours (due to going work).
The cough makes it difficult to laugh or talk loud, and as mentioned, is stubborn. It seems to be at the bottom of the throat, and I've been producing more phlehm (sorry for the details!).
Any treatment suggestions welcome!

my wife and a few friends have had the same virus recently that has been leaving everyone with a cough for a few weeks.
Mrs had it pretty bad mind and it has brought on asthma for her. doc says she may have always had it but never flared up bad until this virus popped up. had a cough for almost 3 months, various antibiotic and herbal treatments didn't shift it, until she had a full on blue in the face attack resulting in a trip to A&E.
work colleague is currently getting treatment for round 2 of bronchitis.
his doc says he's treated loads over the last few weeks. blames a bronchial virus as the culprit.
Mrs cough was almost like a bark more than a cough, didn't have the tickle in her throat and soothers/cough syrup only helped very short term, basically because it was moistening the throat lining.
OP drink loads of fluids to keep the throat lubricated as that helps alleviate the cough, but if it lasts any longer go see your GP as a course of antibiotics may be needed to shift the last of the virus

Had a weird cough like this several years ago - It was like whooping cough at times, and I coughed till I was sick (sorry about detail).
Went to A&E eventually, and they just said 'asthma' which I questioned with them (as I wasn't ever short of breath. Gave me an inhaler which only made it worse. 2 weeks later still had it, and went to a homoeopath who gave me a remedy and it was gone by the next week - best £30 I ever spent.
