I'm looking for some advice. In Feb I took out finance on a 07 VX Vectra SRI with a local VX dealer. They sent me a letter which stated they could offer me an upgrade for the same monthly payments and 2 years free servicing. I was/am happy with my car but didn't think much of it until after a camping trip and decided to see if I could go larger (estate?).

I test drove an estate that was actually smaller then my vectra, anyway I got carried away on the day and signed for finance to buy an 09 Insignia for £100 more per month and no free servicing. Once having the chance to sleep on it, I called the dealer to say I didn't want the car and could they cancel the purchase/finance, I explained I had got carried away on the day, I didn't want an Insignia with all the issues I had read online and although the car had a year warranty, my impression with online posts is that the dmf/clutch get blamed on wear and tear. I can afford the extra £100 a month with an "eek" factor but just seems like a gamble and an extra 4k debt on top still paying off the vectra.

The sales guy tried to get price down, offer an extra year warranty, said the 4k debt from vectra was not really "real"? They had to "structure" the loan like that. Now they are offering me another insignia and not taking no for an answer. They said they had already put the insignia through the workshop etc.

My question is this, I think with the finance there is probably a 14 day cooling off period but is there any such thing with the car purchase? I paid £99 deposit, signed the forms but have not picked up the car. If I legally have to buy it now I will and it will have to be a lesson to me but if I don't, then I would like to turn it down and keep my vectra and pay it off!

Any help would be appreciated, cheers smile

I think the most you can really lose is the £99, unless they've already been paid by the finance company.

No dealer really wants an unhappy customer though so I would just ask to speak to the Sales Manager or Dealer Principal and go from there. Probably just a pushy salesman.

Yeah I knew I'd lose the £99 and don't mind tbh, my bad for getting carried away. I will try again to tell them I'd just like to keep my vectra and pay it off as it's only over 3 years and thus far has been reliable.

Seconding what ajh38 said. You'll lose your £99 but they can, and should, cancel the finance and sale for you.

Cool, thanks again. Going to have to be very firm when the salesman calls again!

Thirded. They absolutely cannot hold you to the finance providing you exercise your rights under the 14 day cooling off period. Put your intentions in writing though.

If you let them know soon enough you might be able to negotiate back the deposit also, but that's going to come down to how reasonable (or otherwise) the dealership is. Considering the 'bluff and bluster' about the car already going through the workshop (which is bks as the most it'll get is a quick sponge over and some tyre-shine on the morning of collection) though I suspect not.

hahaha yeah I beleive the "going through the workshop" is b***ocks as I signed the papers Saturday, asked them to cancel on Monday and I know the workshop isn't open on Sunday as I asked! I'm happy with my previous deal with them for the vectra but the "hard" sell is off putting for their future business. Though to be fair in a couple of years I'm going to go back to private sales, too much lost on part exchange :s

A few more weeks on the forum and you'll either be leasing a new Golf R or selling the Vectra to fund an E39 touring anyway, so never mind the £99 wink

biggrin

Is the Golf R the preferred junior supercar now?
