If you are a bit forgetful and you drive an old rover is there anything you can fit to turn the lights off when you get out and go?

Don't they have an alarm that sounds to alert you to leaving lights on?

I've never got this with cars though, that you can flick the lights on with the ignition off. On a motorcycle, if the ignition is off, everything is off.

Perhaps buy a new car with auto lights - never have to remember to switch the lights on and off ever again! :P

A little flap that comes down infront of you when you open the door saying "turn off the lights mate"
You could probably fit that quite easily.

Alternatively, a big post it note in the middle of the steering wheel.

My old Punto used to do the opposite... when you switched the ignition off, the lights went out but the radio stayed on.

It might have just been wired up backwards though

I flattened the battery several times in my previous Toyota Celica by leaving the lights on.

The drivers side door open switch was faulty so the buzzer didn't sound, switched it over to the passenger side and buzz returned. No more flat battery!!

Me too. haha. In the 'olden days' I'm sure you could retrofit a buzzer if the lights were on and the door was opened. Probably too old skool now though, so would likely be a DIY jobby...

My cars have "lights on" warning lights fitted outside the car, so you can tell if the switch has been left on from quite a distance.

Although on my kawasaki if you turn the ignition one click beyond "off" the parking lights come on...

Nope fiats are just wierd my stilo turns it off with the ignition but the radio stays on for 20 mins although there was a setting in a menu to make it turn off with the ignition.


Maybe just be like other rover drivers and leave the lights off all the time and drive 15mph under the speed limit just in case

This is for a forgetful friend, I don't drive an old rover... but you'd think it would be second nature, especially when theyve had a jumpstart half a dozen times because of leaving the lights on..

When walking away from the car, turn around and check?

(It works for me, but the walk back to the car to turn the lights off is a pain & occasionally embarrassing .)


It's easy to wire in a lights-on warning buzzer, by getting a feed from the sidelight circuit, another from the door switches and an earth and plugging said buzzer in. Turning round and checking when leaving the car is probably easier though .
