Remember the Kenny Brack GT40 video from last year's Goodwood Revival? Course you do. Heroically terrifying and completely captivating, it has currently had nearly 400,000 views on YouTube.

What you may not have noticed from reading that story was that it was Al Buncombe in a GT40 shared with Andy Wallace who set the fastest lap of the race. And he didn't just sneak it either; a 1:21.755 was a second quicker than the time set by the Brack/Newey car.
So why did the JD Classics car finish fourth? A pit stop SNAFU involving a stalled car and a delay from the marshals meant Al was a long way back when he joined the race. Hence a desire to get back amongst it and this astounding show of driving including the obligatory high speed skids, a few cheeky overtakes and one particularly scary moment on the grass. At 130mph.
And yet this video sits languishing with 3,500 views. So let's do something that. Put the kettle on and prepare to be amazed.

Always great to see Alex (and a GT40) at work. 
However, your comparison with the Brack lap is a little disingenuous: the thing that made Kenny's laps remarkable was that it was wet. Very wet. That's why it is a somewhat more exciting ride, and perhaps deserves to be the more popular footage.

Although Brack's lap was remarkable, he had a big wide moment at St Mary's and ended up second on the grind to Mike Jordan in Philip Walker's GT40, which had barely any running or development to speak of. For Brack perfection, his TT drive in 2011 I reckon is his finest moment to date. He had about a two second lead by the time the pack arrived at No Name! I don't know how many superlatives you can put Al Buncombe's way but the guy is a phenomenon. His Freddie March Memorial Trophy drive last year in streaming rain was from the top drawer; surely among the absolute finest Revival drives of all.

These 289 V8 motors pass 7K easily - they sound like nothing else when lifting before the Eau Rouge Spa climb. Also, shifting back and braking on the limit before steering into La Source is beyond anything you will ever experience watching motor racing. Especially watching this from the photographers wall. I'm always a bit amazed about people who watch classic car vids: apparently for the first or so time. Off course it's a fighting against the elements thing. And THAT is good fun to watch.
I'm just wondering why does he have to work so hard at the wheel? Is it because the car is four wheel drifting and he's coming on and off the steering because it doesn't upset the suspension by correcting that way? Or is it the rear end going light or getting unstable?

Looks to my uneducated eyes that he's fighting understeer on the way into corners and oversteer on the way out. That over take on the way into the chicane at about 3 minutes made me swear out loud Lovely car, lovely noise and good driving anyway.

I'm sure watching the GT40s into La Source is great, Dinks, but watching them slithering through Fordwater at virtually flat chat really gets my juices flowing.
