In April last year, I needed a new daily hack to eat up my 90mile commute.

I went for a 2013 Fiesta Zetec S with their wonderful 1.0 Ecoboost engine on a PCP deal as I have no intention of keeping the car for over three years.

Just over a years ownership and so far I've been told to F**k off by my local ford branches parts dept over the phone, had various parts of the interior fall off, had the headunit brick itself, paint peeling off the front bumper, and now it seems like the 2nd gear syncro isn't happy as the car won't go into gear without grinding.

After calling Ford for a solution (luckily I didn't get told to F**k off this time!) I was told it would be two weeks until they can look at the car... So I now have to drive around in a year old car wearing my clutch out missing 2nd with no concrete solution in site.

Is there anyway of getting this wretched car out of my life in the middle of a PCP deal easily? I've heard rumors of other manufacturers buying people out of PCP deals to get them into their cars, but I don't know how much truth there is in that...

My problem is not with the car, I understand cars have teething problems, however my local Ford network seems to be run by ISIS, which is intolerable.

Don't let my story put you off the 1.0 Fiesta, its a cracking car and a lot of people I know have had no problems at all. smile

However Ford dealers themselves is where the process falls down, they don't give a flying rats arse about rectifying customers problems

No worries, I do like the look of that 1.0. But sounds like a case of bad luck frown

One thing I forgot to mention was contacting 'ford UK' customer services, knew someone who had a warranty problem a while back, dealers weren't interested initially, but on contacting them the dealers suddenly got their act together!

Also sounds like Volkswagen "customer service".

A VW dealer has recently been a bit careless with two cars in our family. One is a polo and after replacing coolant temp sensor, they didn't run the car. End result was a coolant burp on the way home and a mess in the engine bay.

Second (more seriously) was a Golf GT. They took the sump off to do something, but when putting it back didn't seal it properly. This is my mum's car and she isn't one for checking things. My dad noticed the oil leak and took it back to the dealer to be fixed. He wasn't happy when they finally admitted what it was caused by. I'm not surprised.

I've told people not to use that dealership anymore.

If the finance agreement is regulated by the consumer credit act and you're a consumer it's likely the finance provider will be jointly liable for issues.

My local dealership is the exact reason I won't get another Ford. The parts guy is cracking - always knocks a bit of the prices - but the sales and service guys really don't care. One experience I could forgive but every time I had something done it was bad. I've given up now. Worryingly my dad is in the same position at his local dealer. He was already to swap to a newer Focus until they basically broke his car whilst servicing it, then washed their hands of it. It took me going down there and kicking up a storm with the service manager to have anything done, but the damage is done now. He'll change brands and they've lost a customer.

As a ford owner and someone who spends a lot of time on ford forums, write to ford in Dagenham, or call their customer service directly. They can do wonders when you have a snotty dealer. Or take it to another dealer...

This. My partner had an issue with a Toyota dealership and when she got no joy she hit twitter. Within minutes, Toyota responded with the advice she was after (along with channel 5 news asking if they could interview her!) She said no and got the car sorted in the end.

I read a post on here on a similar topic that you should go to the dealership on a busy day. Then insist to talk to the sales/customer service manager on the floor and mention all of your problems in a very loud voice...

indeed, not doubting the OP, but it would be interesting to see a transcript of how the conversion led up to him being told to F off ;-)

No point writing to Dagenham when the head office is in Warley....

hehe

This sounds out of place. Case of severe bad luck on the car side, and a case of wky dealership on the other end. Just let me remind you, Ford don't actually own the dealerships wink

I can assure you I'm not short tempered at all, the chap couldn't find my number plate in the system or the part I was looking for so when I said 'let me see if there's a part number on the ford parts website, he said 'aah f*ck off' and hung up! This was on a Saturday, and my local parts department are the B Team at the best of times, so the weekend staff must be dredged from a swamp or something..

A little update - I left the car sitting for a week whilst I went on holiday and when I returned the grinding into 2nd gear fault had stopped, but now my clutch feels exceptionally high and 'loose'. After another week of waiting Ford were finally ready to look at it. Only now, because there is no grinding there is apparently nothing wrong with the car and they refuse to investigate the clutch, which I sort of understand as this is a consumable item.

So after a week in their hands I took my car back from them, drove it for a day and I was then temporarily stranded in a petrol station when the fiesta refused to let me into any gear.

Ouch I feel your pain OP.
My experience of Ford dealers is pretty bad too, luckily I haven't had any issues on our fiesta shopping trolley yet but I'm dreading taking it to them for the service.
Would rather do it myself but I need to keep it FSH as I'm not sure how long we're going to keep it.

I had a Fiesta Metal, an absolutely brilliant little car spoilt by my local dealerships service area which was abysmal.

Hope you get yours sorted soon.

Funny you should say that! It was a friends Metal that made me go for a 'warm' Fiesta. The cars are brilliant, and these problems wouldn't bother me at all if I had a helpful dealer behind me.

As things stand it looks like you can reverse out of a PCP deal once the amount paid matches exactly half of the total you agree to pay at the start. My only worry is that when I do this, the dealer will miraculously discover all the faults I've been telling them about for the last 8 months, and bend me over the desk (financially speaking spin )
