Where would people suggest looking for a bare 2824-2? The days when they were available from Otto Frei for £30-odd seem to be long since passed, and the cheaper watches containing them all seem to have sold now, too.

Ive found a Disney watch with an ETA movement for about £160 delivered, which is far cheaper than Cousins want for a bare movement - can anyone suggest a cheaper option, please?

Out of curiosity, what's the Disney watch?

Is that the 3 hand day+date version?

Cousins has them at about £180, or Chinese copies (actually not bad movements!) for around £80

I hadn't seen the Chinese copies Joe. Are they Seagull ST2130s? I really want an ETA though, or maybe a Sellita 2824-2, as its a Swiss watch.

Yeah, they're the Seagulls (like I said, not as bad as the usual unbranded crud).

Have you got the old one out of the watch and what's wrong with it? It's unusual to have to replace a complete mechanical movement.

Its a complete replacement for a missing movement Joe. A frankenwatch that we have discussed...

Ahh, ok. Can't promise anything but I'll have a look through my scrap box - might just have one lurking in there.

Thatd be brilliant. A 2836-2 or a 2892 would do too. smile

I have a Bulova with what I think is the same movement but with day. It's their rip off of the Rolex Day-Date. I don't much want the watch so let me know if it's of use to you. I've no idea if you can just remove the day complication and let it run with just the date.

You can, or you can just leave the day running invisibly behind the dial.

Thanks for the confirmation!

If it's any good to you, I can check it on Saturday when I get home and send it out next week.

I found the full listing for the Disney watch:

There was a PVD DD watch to, bizarrely!

No problem. When I'm back on Saturday I'll give it a wind to make sure it isn't dead (I haven't worn it for a while) and let you know. It's identical to this:

Sorry, I thought I had already posted back here.

I've messed with the watch and it seems to be keeping time, but there's something odd with the winding mechanism. Manually winding it is very stiff and there's a sort of vibration as if it's turning the rotor with it. I'm guessing it needs a service.
I don't know about automatic winding ad I've only been winding it each morning and checking the timing in the evening.

If you still want it, I have no use for it. I just thought I'd let you know my findings. I don't know if that's typical of this movement or not.

Right then, if you want to send me an address I'll try to send it out this week.
