So I hand my notice in today - Move from IB to a FTSE 250
Discussion
Wierd feeling...got a very heavy heart. Will miss the kudos factor of working for €35+ billion org.
Met some very very switched on people in the bank. Very privileged, however needs must. Was offered a position at a growing FTSE250 yday.
The package is pretty stellar for a 33 year old from an ex mining town up north who got a Desmond and flunked his A levels.
Already had the "are you f
king joking me?" You are leaving banking.?
Er no. I'm leaving middle office, this aint banking but merely a means to an end.
So adios London and off I return back to the W.Mids.

Good on you OP. I like to hear of people who are improving themselves, shows others that it is possible. Even if there are some who think that you should not be proud about your own achievements.
This. No need to be so c*ntish about it.

Anyhoo. What's a Desmond?
Is it a reference to Desmond Decker or Double Decker?
There's lots of chocolate bar references going on.
It's making me oh so hungry.

s!It's human nature, unfortunately. If someone does well and has a certain amount of humility then you are invariably pleased for them.
If someone shouts "LOOK AT ME. EVERYBODY LOOK AT MY THINGS. ITS ALL MINE, NOT YOURS" then you tend to be less charitable towards them
This should go in First World Problems .. yes it's stressful moving out of an industry .. but not really a problem to share if you're being well re-numerated for it!
P.S. I also left the IB world some while ago so I understand the difficulties in such a transition - though I left with no job to go to (career break) so it didn't provide such willy-waving material at the time.

Well done OP. What's the stellar package if you don't mind me asking? You say it's stellar "for somebody from an ex mining town up north who got a Desmond and flunked his A levels" which, in all honesty, could be a graduate trainee position with McDonalds Met some very very switched on people in the bank. Must be a little more than that if he is prepared to forego the Kudos of working for a company that turns over $35 billion.
I'd never considered this before, but my friend who works as a cleaner in an Apple Store has approximately 5 times the Kudos of the OP and hundreds of times the Kudos of me. I have never felt so small as today
