Classic Cars Photoshoot at Millbrook

I spent a great day on Monday with Classic Cars at the Millbrook testing ground.
The purpose of the photoshoot was to compare a set of 1984 cars, CC wanted a 390SE with the standard engine, most have been enlarged and my 1985 version was the closest they could find at a week's notice. I got a call from Ralph and Mervyn (TVRCC) to see if I was up to it and thought that I had to work on that day. A few minutes rearranging meetings and booking leave, I got back to them and agreed.

I got to Millbrook from Reading about an hour early - well you never know with the M25. The rest of the guys started to turn up.
Peugeot 205 GTI - nice black restoration.
Toyota MR2 1600 TC - metallic blue, quite nippy.
BMW M5 - gloriously unrestored but sound autobahnstormer.
TVR390SE - no description available.
Buick Grand National with 26psi boost and methanol injection - with a 4 foot respray.
Ferrari 288 GTO - glorious white with a flock dash - immaculate condition all round, 3 turbos on this model.
The day involved following the official Millbrook van around the track with the photographer hanging out of the back in various poses supported by climbing rope and carabinas. We were mostly on the alpine track with various graded hills (not the speed bowl) and never got up to any considerable speed.
The TVR didn't stand a chance against the Ferrari on Power, Handling, Looks or Sound (it is worth £1,000,000 +) but the journalist Ben told me it was growing on him once he had got used to the heaviness of the car - but he didn't like the shuttle-shake.
The Ferrari was also in white so the two weren't photographed together much as photographers/magazine editors don't like to white cars together.
The Buick was what I would call a "mad nutter boll**k" car with so much power and presence, it was accompanied by three ace blokes from Hull who enjoyed a laugh, but the finale involved them firing up the rear tyres and engulfing all the other cars in smoke and rubber bits for a photo opportunity - they had to fill up with fuel half way through the day.
The day ended about 4:30 and back to Reading, it performed perfectly all day and didn't miss a beat.
I haven't got any photos because we had to hand in all cameras and tape over phones as we went into Millbrook. The mag should be out in September.
