Nissan Premera N reg, 1.6 GT 16v high idle speed

Hi folks,
Has anyone experienced a 'high idle' situation with a N reg, 1.6, 16v Nissan Premera GT, approx. 60-70,000 miles. It runs well in all other aspects except that the engine idle remains between 1000-2000 on stand-still. if the throttle is blipped it will drop briefly then go back up.
This is an ongoing fault that got worst recently when I tried to rectify the problem. No adjustment at all was made but it seemed to be caused by a electrically operated valve at the back of the air intake that was connected to the accel pedal.

Any ideas??

never knew they made a 1.6 GT... thought they were all 2.0 SR20DE units

Air leak on intake pipe? My old BMWs did this, split in air pipe from air filter was the culprit.
