Hi all

My Audi is in garage for a little bit and I've been offered a Nissan Navara from a friend to use for transport. Its fully insured (commercial policy), taxed and MOT'd

My insurance certificate says I can drive any 'car' providing that 'car' is all legal and I've got permission from the owner.

Will I be insured given the Nissan is on a commercial policy? I've contacted my insurer but they are one of those internet insurers so I may never get a response and need to use Nissan from Saturday and all next week. I dont want to drive uninsured!

Thanks

Lee

Borderline. A Navara isn't a "car", it's a "dual-purpose vehicle", legally, with subtle different regs in a lot of areas.

Does your policy give any definition at all in the Ts & Cs? If not, then I'd definitely want to check with the insurers before relying on it. Are they _really_ that uncontactable?

I've read everything and it just says car. You cannot insure a Navara under a standard car policy because it has a payload greater than 1 tonne and makes it a van.

Have you ever tried to contact Swiftcover? Its not working out so well for me, may just have to try and borrow another car. I've used Navara before but didnt think about this problem till now.

Run a quote with your insurer online and enter the Nissan's details, if they don't quote you for it there's your answer.
I know you're restricted for time but personally I'd still want to check with the insurer.

I've always assumed it means something drivable on a category-B licence.

There head offices are only 3 miles from my house.. wonder if I can go knock on the door.

Thanks Kambites, this was my understanding at first but my Dad put doubt in my mind when he said I couldnt borrow a company vehicle from him.

Why not, ours do.

I'd wait to check rather than assume that your licence covers it so your insurance will, DOC is a grey area in itself throw commercial cars into the equation and it can turn into a ballache quickly.

I'd pop down to their head office if it were I.
