Hello all

After 3 years and £30k restoration, my 3.0 CSL was ready to be enjoyed this summer. Classic car meets, trips abroad and all those sunny days when we love nothing better than getting out for a drive.

At the beginning of May, someone drove into the back of me. Low speed but as he hit the corner, lots of (new) panels are damaged and the repair bill will be nearly 5 figures. 100% other driver's fault and in theory it will all be paid for. 6 weeks later and the repairs are yet to start.

My question/rant is that I am still left without the car for the foreseeable future, have had to cancel all the trips in it etc which has kinda ruined my summer. Im also paying insurance on a car I can't use.

Whilst I hate the compunsashun culture as much as the next man, Im still left feeling inconvenienced as well as thoroughly fed up and wondered because of this if there is anything else I can claim for apart from the damage.

Or do I have to man up as they say and just accept that sh*t happens.

It is possible to claim for loss of use. if you approach the third party with a proposal for compensating you they may well be receptive. If they are not it's up to you whether you decide to cut up rough.

I would kick up at your insurance company, they should be pushing all this for you that's what you pay them for!! As its the other guys fault its in their interest to make sure its all settled quickly by the other insurer .
Push for alsorts of compo`,a replacement car?? You never know you could get a classic hire car and do some of your trips.

If it's driveable then go on your summer trips with the scar and enjoy the roads, then have it fixed after the summer. Just let the insurances know, I'm sure they won't mind delaying the repairs.
I know it's not the same as going with a pristine car, but at least you won't miss the whole summer.
